2023: Pastor Adeboye speaks on the General elections, preferred candidate

by Leading Reporters April 3, 2022
written by Leading Reporters

“Hear it with anointed ears, I am not and I will never be a politician. I am called to be a pastor,” Pastor Adeboye says.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has said he has no preferred candidate for next year’s general election.

“Every political party is heavily represented. If I vote for anyone, I would be unjust to the rest of my children; I am the father of all and I like it that way,” he said. He added that he will support whoever God says.

“…my assignment has nothing to do with partisan politics, do not distract my attention. You will bear me out… I have never told you, this is the fellow you should vote for… I have never said this is the party you should belong to; I have never said it and will never say it,” he said at the April 2022 Thanksgiving Service held on Sunday.

Mr Adeboye also said Nigerians who refuse to vote in an election have no right to complain about the government.

“You were Nigerian before you became a Christian. As a Nigerian, you have a duty to register, to vote and make sure your vote will count. You have a duty to belong to any party of your choice; you can’t refuse to vote and then complain about the government,” the cleric said.

He said he has no care for the political party people belong to or vote for as long as they do their duty – vote in the upcoming 2023 elections.

During his sermon, he said God has yet to speak to him about the 2023 elections unlike in 2019 when God spoke to him a year before the elections.

“As of now, I still do not know whether or not there will be an election next year. Do not say that Pastor Adeboye said there will be no election next year, that is not what I said… Adeboye does not know yet,” he told his congregation.

For this reason, the cleric said, he does not know if there would be elections in 2023. He added that God might still speak to him about the elections.

“How come you don’t know? Because my father has not talked to me about it yet. The last time we had an election, He (God) spoke to me about the election by June of the previous year and this is April. So, it is not late but He hasn’t told me yet,” he added.

“I want you to listen with anointed ears and anointed hearts. Pastor Adeboye is not and will never be a politician. I have never been and will never be; that is not my calling, I am called to be a pastor,” he said.

Mr Adeboye’s statement on his political involvement comes at a time when there are speculations about the intentions of the church’s department on politics and governance.

RCCG in March announced that it has set up a department on politics and governance to help muster support for members with political ambitions.

While some find the church’s active participation in government commendable, many have condemned the action, alleging that it is a front to campaign for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Many Nigerians believe Mr Osinbajo seeks to contest the 2023 presidential election although he has yet to declare his interest. Mr Osinbajo is a cleric of the RCCG.

On Sunday, Mr Adeboye noted that he is very concerned about the Kaduna killings, oil theft, Nigeria’s depressing debt profile and other current national challenges.

However, “anybody who comes to me from whatever party to pray for them, I will pray. I have only one prayer for every one of them, “Father, let your perfect will concerning this fellow be done”

Speaking on his concerns about Kaduna, he said, “you cannot go to Kaduna by road, air or train. That brings so many questions to my mind as a man of prayers. Why Kaduna? Who is trying to isolate Kaduna? Why? After Kaduna, which next?” he asked.

He noted that while some Christians are killing themselves over 2023, rapture (a theological position held by some Christians consisting of an end-time event when all Christian believers who are alive, along with resurrected believers, would rise in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air) may come before the end of the year 2022.

“It is in the news and nobody has denied it that as of now more than 80 per cent of the oil we are producing is being stolen… that leads me to several questions,” Mr Adeboye said.

He went on to ask accountability questions on the whereabouts of the stolen oil.

“Who is stealing the oil? Where is the money going? What do they want to do with the money? Who are the foreign nations buying this stolen oil? How many of these nations of the world are your friends?”

According to him, it is an open secret that more than 90 per cent of the money Nigeria gets from crude oil sales is being used to furnish interest accruing on debt.

“We are borrowing more and according to a friend of mine, we are moving steadily towards a state of bankruptcy, a whole nation…”

He asked his congregation to pray to God that Nigeria’s debts be cleared just like in the time of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. If not, generations to come will continue to pay these debts, he said.

2023: RCCG to Support Political Ambition of Church Members

by Folarin Kehinde March 11, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Ahead of Nigeria’s February 25, 2023 General Elections, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has taken steps to mobilize support for its members who may want to vie for elective offices at the polls.

This comes as the church with over five million members and more than 32,000 parishes across the country has established the “Office of Directorate of Politics and Governance” to help support its members with political ambitions in 2023.

A memo announcing the establishment of the department which was signed by Pastor John Odesola, RCCG’s Assistant General Overseer, Admin, said the department was created to “help coordinate the engagement of our people who are willing to be involved in politics as well as mobilize support for them” during elections.

The memo marked RCCG/AGO/ADM/AA/MEMO/20/01/2022 reads, “We write to formally notify you that the mission authority has created the Office of Directorate of Politics and Governance in the RCCG. Further to this, Pastor Timothy Olaniyan (PICP Lagos Province 12) has been appointed to lead the Office.

“You are kindly requested to appoint with immediate effect a Provincial Officer for your province and also ensure that the same is done at all levels of the church – zone, area and parish. The essence of this directorate is to help coordinate the engagement of our people who are willing to be involved in politics as well as mobilize support for them when required.”

The Head of Media and Public Relations of the RCCG, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, confirmed to The Punch that the department was created to “galvanise opinion and views to discuss issues as they occur, not only in Nigeria but globally, because as Christians we cannot afford to act ignorantly. It is to serve as a form of sensitisation (for those interested in politics) and to mobilise our people to register and play their own roles, collect PVCs. Those who are interested, let them join the political party they choose.”

Nigeria @ 61: Nigeria will surmount Current Travails – Adeboye

by Folarin Kehinde September 27, 2021
written by Folarin Kehinde

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, on Sunday cleverly joined in the raging controversy over Nigeria’s increasing debt profile without making his position on the matter public.

The pastor, sounding sarcastic, however quoted an unnamed friend of his, who he said, kept thanking God anytime he heard about increase in the nation’s debt profile.

He said his friend’s argument had been that the nation’s numerous creditors would always be praying for Nigeria to continue to exist so that they could get their money back.

The pastor spoke while delivering his sermon during an interdenominational church service held to mark Nigeria’s 61st independence anniversary and the 45th anniversary of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Abuja.

Adeboye told the gathering that included Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and other top government officials that he would have dodged the responsibility of preaching at the service if he was told that the event also had to do with the nation’s independence anniversary.

He said the invitation he received only indicated that it was about the anniversary of CAN.

“I have a friend that we schooled about the same time and we were born at about the same time. He is a great optimist. When we heard that Nigeria was owing N55tn, he said ‘praise the lord’, and when I looked at him with a question on my face, he said those who are praying for Nigeria are many and that the creditors know that if Nigeria does not survive, they won’t be able to get their money back.

“When he heard that the interest we have to pay on our debt is 98 per cent of our income and that even the Senate has approved that we should borrow more, he said ‘glory be to God’.

“I said how would you say glory be to God? He said ‘when what you owe is more than what you can pay, the creditors have a choice. It is either they forgive you your debts or you go ahead and declare bankruptcy. They get angry and then they come and seize the most valuable thing you have.’

“He said the most precious thing they can seize in Nigeria is the Aso Rock. When I said, what is there to thank God for in that? He said ‘have you not been listening to the news?’ He said the President said he would love to visit Daura every two weeks.

“So, he said if they seize Aso Rock, his (Buhari’s) request would be granted, he won’t have to visit Daura every two weeks. He will just move the seat of power to Daura.”

Adeboye also urged the public to always thank God despite the challenges in the country, while adding that all would be well.

Osinbajo, on his part, said despite all that had confronted the country, some states in Nigeria had larger economies than 15 African countries.

In his speech titled, ‘The vision undefeated’, he said the vision of the country would come to fruition at an appointed time, adding that the current problems bedevilling the country would not overwhelm the nation.

He said, “We have since become the most educated and the most entrepreneurial in Africa. Ten of our 36 states have larger economies than at least 15 major African countries.”

Pastor Adeboye Preaches At Church Holy Communion Service Despite Son’s Death

by Leading Reporters May 7, 2021
written by Leading Reporters

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye preached virtually at the church’s Holy Communion service on Thursday.

This is despite the loss of his third son, Dare, who died on Tuesday in his sleep.

The Holy Communion Service, a programme held in preparation for the church’s monthly programme, ‘Holy Ghost service’, which holds every first Friday of a month.

Adeboye’s sermon was titled, ‘Overflowing Blessings’ and he read from John 6: 5-13.

He preached in his usual fashion regardless of the tragedy that struck the family.

As his usual practice, he called on those who have yet to give their lives to Christ to do so.

LeadingReporters observed that Adeboye didn’t make a comment about his son’s death but rather focused on the message.

He also prayed for healing for all those who are sick all over the world; prayed for a new power to witness for God with signs following. “So that the world will know that greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world,” he said.

A minister, who moderated the Holy Communion Service at the Convention Ground said the Pastor was not physically present due to some ‘circumstances beyond control’.

The minister said, “I am here not standing in for him because I am too small to stand for him. I am only here to deliver the message as a messenger. He could have been here physically as he used to but due to circumstances beyond control, he was not able to be here but to the Glory of God, he has said to us, Jesus is here and he is also there praying for us…”

Dare, who is the third child of the General Overseer would have turned 43 on June 9, 2021.

He was a life coach, visionary leader, motivator, bridge builder and a youth provincial pastor in Eket, Akwa Ibom State.

The church had, however, revealed that the death of Pastor Dare Adeboye is not related to COVID-19.

The church, in a post on its verified Twitter handle, @rccghq said Pastor Dare died on Tuesday, May 4.

The statement signed by the church’s spokesman said it was the wish of the family to be left alone at this critical time.

The tweet read, “It is with a deep and heartfelt sense of loss we announce the departure of our beloved son, brother, husband and father, Oluwadamilare Temitayo Adeboye, who went to be with the Lord on the 4th of May, 2021.

“His life was well lived as he served the Lord without reserve, giving effortlessly and leading fearlessly.

“He was crowned by the Lord with blessings of 3 seeds and a beautiful wife.

“Though shaken, our anchor remains Jesus Christ in whom we have the assurance that we will one day meet in a place where there is no pain.

“It is the wish of the family to be left alone at this moment, and we pray the Lord to keep you as you honour this humble request.

“Oluwadamilare Temitayo Adeboye, June 9th 1978 – May 4th 2021. Remain forever in our heart. Please note that this is not a COVID-19 related death.”
