CBN Governor sacks Adesoji Ogungbesa, Mustapha Oladeji Jimoh from MINT’s board over criminal infractions; may hand them over to anti-corruption agencies

by Leading Reporters February 22, 2026
written by Leading Reporters

The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Olayemi Cardoso has sacked Mr Adesoji Ogungbesa and Mr Mustapha Oladeji Mohammed-Jimoh from the board of the Nigeria Security, Printing and Minting company for gross abuse of office and violations of laid down principles, a discreet has revealed to LeadingReporters.

The source also hinted on possible prosecution of the duo by the anti-corruption agencies over abuse of office, and mismanagement of funds. Recall that LeadingReporters has previously made publications on the illegal employment of Adesoji Ogungbesa and Mustapha Jimoh, whose employment were said to have been facilitated by one Mr. Olakunle Abiola, a former aide to a deputy governor Emem Usoro of central bank of Nigeria.  Mr Olakunle Abiola was later sacked for falsification of his credentials.

The CBN source who revealed this to LeadingReporters hinted that the Central Bank Governor may not end at just dismissing the duo but may hand them over to the anti-corruption agencies for proper investigations and possible prosecution if found culpable.  The source said that despite series of intervention from politicians and top religious personalities from South West Nigeria, the governor was quoted to have said that sentiments had no place in his quest to position MINT and other affiliate organisations to perform optimally under his watch.

“The governor bluntly refused all the overtures made to him to upturn his decisions about the sacked board members. He has vowed to personally ensure that MINT lives up to expectation in terms of service delivery.

Meanwhile, LeadingReporters investigation revealed that both Adesoji Ogungbesa and Mustapha Oladeji Jimoh were beneficiaries of a backdoor employment arrangement as both lacked the prerequisite qualifications to sit on board of MINT.

A copy of the panel of interviewers’ report dated 22nd of December, 2023, following an interview conducted on the 21st December, 2023 exclusively obtained by LeadingReporters revealed that both Adesoji Ogungbesa and Mustapha Oladeji Jimoh did not qualify for the positions of Executive Directors. While Mustapha, a Chartered Accountants with long practicing experience was said to have been limited by his age (63 at the point of interview), Adesoji Ogungbesa was said to have no verifiable credentials to enable him work for the position of Chief Financial Officer which he was vying for at the time of interview.  Another limitation was the salary he claimed to have previously earned (N71m/pa which our investigation revealed is false) from his former employer, Sahara Group, as against N11m/pa payable for position of a senior manager in MINT.

Adesoji Ogungbesa, despite not qualified for the position of a Chief Financial Officer was said to have approached his friend Olakunle Abiola who manipulated the process that eventually landed Adesoji as an Ag. Executive Director, Corporate Services.

The source said that Mr Olayemi Cardoso is currently sourcing for highly technical and competent hands to join the board in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renew Hope Agenda.

Exposed:  Face of  MINT Acting Director Adesoji Ogungbesan Who Wasted N86m On Rat Gum

by Leading Reporters July 13, 2025
written by Leading Reporters

The last may not have been heard of the level of wastefulness, stealing, corruption and ineptitude bedeviling Nigeria Security, Printing and Minting company, as information has revealed that the Acting Director Corporate Services, Mr Adesoji Ogungbesan cornered a staggering  Eighty Six Million Naira (N86,000,000) to buy 100 pieces of Rat Gum as seen in the pictures. This is the latest of the untamed stealing that has characterised the current management staff, whose ineptitude is fast rendering the company near-moribund.

Recall that more than 200 staff of the company were pressed into involuntary resignation over the dwindling fortunes of the company.  A move Mr Adesoji claimed was a cost-cutting exercise.  A source who spoke to LeadingReporters on condition of anonymity revealed that MINT, as it stands now, is bereft sense of direction, despite the efforts of the Central Bank of Nigeria governor at repositioning the corruption-infested government company.

The source, one of the coerced early retirement victims, said that MINT will soon become a company no progressive-minded person would desire to work in.  He attributed the current abysmal status of the company to the activities, ineptitude and overzealousness of the Acting Corporate Services Director, Mr Adesoji Ogungbesan and his clique in the company.

“MINT, as it stands now, prints and imports over 70% of the Nigerian currency from Europe.  The staff welfare is nothing to write home about. Most staff now house themselves in the factory and only go home on weekends due to transportation challenges.  Their morale is at the lowest level, and they are not going to take it lightly again, from the information we gathered. Do not be surprised if you hear about a showdown between the management and the staff soon.

The source said that the corruption is so untamed, and the company owner, the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been making frantic efforts at redirecting the affairs of MINT in a productive and profit-oriented direction, a move that has repeatedly boomeranged owing to vested interests in the company.

“Mr Adesoji Ogungbesan and a few other management staff were brought to the company by elements in CBN.  We understood that one of the aides to a deputy governor of CBN brought him through the backdoor. He was interviewed for a lesser position, but suddenly, he was placed in the position of acting executive director.  He does things his way and rebuffs everyone.  He claims he is a product of “Aso Rock” and cannot be touched. That could have been why the CBN Governor, Dr Olayemi Cardoso, is helpless under the circumstances.

Meanwhile, LeadingReporters investigation has revealed that the rat gum project was one of the many avenues used by Adesoji to siphon money from the coffers of the company.

“I just heard about it.  Unfortunately, that is how heartless the new management has become.  Wasting resources at the expense of the staff who toil under horrible work conditions.  We lost more than 200 staff recently who got fed up with suffering and left the company.  I think the rat gum is the smallest of the brazen embezzlements that the subject person and his co-travelers, popularly known in MINT as the “Villa Boys”, are perpetrating in MINT.

As part of measures to protect the country’s currency, the board of Nigerian Security Printing and Minting (NSPM) has terminated the appointment of the executive management team led by the Managing Director, Halilu Ahmed.

As gathered, the board chaired by Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, directed Ahmed, who was identified as former President, Muhammadu Buhari’s in-law, and other members to hand over all activities of NSPM immediately, ending their two years stay in office.

Meanwhile, the Cardoso-led board has appointed Abubakar Minjibir, as the Acting. Managing Director, to prevent any leadership vacuum within the agency.

Also appointed by the board on Wednesday were Muhammed Mustapha who serves as General Manager for Finance and Strategy, and Adesoji Ogungbesan who will assume office as the General Manager for Corporate Services.

Although the new development has not been effected on the agency’s website, the change was contained in a memo dispatched by the board to staff and seen by The Guild Correspondent.

In the memo with no. 2083, the board assured staff that the new management team would ensure better welfare, and embrace strategic initiatives as well as transform the agency to achieve its goals.

The board, however, urged the staff to cooperate with the Minjibir-led team to achieve the Board’s strategic vision for the company.

DSS Scare: MINT hides deluxe cars acquired for Executive Directors

by Leading Reporters September 22, 2023
written by Leading Reporters

The Ahmed Halilu-led Nigeria Security, Printing and Minting, popularly called MINT is in deep waters and doing everything to cover tracks of its perennial corruption and wastefulness. This time, according to information unveiled by LeadingReporters, posh cars acquired for top management staff have been relocated and hidden away from the MINT main factory to a secret corner in Tawada Nigeria Limited.

The latest moves follow the invitation of the top management staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria and its affiliate, the Nigeria Security, Printing and Minting (MINT), by the Department of State Security Services DSS.

Recall that DSS arrested the Governor of the Central Bank, Mr. Godwin Emiefele following reports of untamed corruption that characterized his leadership. Others, invited include the former Managing Director of Nigeria Security, Printing and Minting Abbas Umar Masanawa. The duo of Emiefele and Masanawa were arrested and detained. Masanawa has been however granted conditional bail while investigation continues, according to information available to this platform.

Others invited by DSS are the Deputy Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the current Managing Director of MINT, Ahmed Halilu.

A close source who is in the know informed this platform that no sooner Halilu was questioned and interrogated by DSS than he ordered that the vehicles, previously parked conspicuously in MINT factory be relocated to a more inaccessible corner in their subsidiary company, Tawada Nigeria Limited.

The source said that Mr. Halilu is covering all tracks that may lead to more discovery of the perennial anomaly that has characterized MINT, including a missing N25 billion which allegedly missed from the coffers of MINT.

Halilu, whose tenure has elapsed is one of the Central Bank Governor’s associates who joined him from the Zenith Bank. He took over as the Managing Director when his predecessor, Abbas Umar Masanawa resigned to contest for the governorship election of Katsina State.

Mr. Masanawa worked with Emiefele in Zenith Bank, just like Mr. Halilu and allegedly use his personal company called Preferred Global Company Limited to corner billions of Naira from MINT into secret accounts in Zenith, against the Code.of Conduct Act.
