written by Folarin Kehinde

THE Federal Government has declared Friday, April 21, and Monday, April 24, as Public Holidays to mark this year’s Eld-ul-fitr Celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, announced this in a statement released through the Ministry’s Twitter handle on Wednesday, April 18.

In the statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Shuaib Begore, Aregbesola congratulated all Muslims for the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The minister urged Muslims to imbibe and practice the virtues of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, self-denial, sacrifice and good neighborliness.

“The self-restraint, self-denial, sacrifice and deep spiritual consciousness that accompanied the fasting period should not end but be maintained and improved upon, in order to be a better person and true worshiper,” he added.

Aregbesola also reassured Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari is fully committed to a peaceful transition of government following the general elections.

He added that the Federal Government is committed to securing the life and property of every citizen and foreigner in the country.

Aregbosola commended the security agencies for the successes recorded in the fight against criminals across the country, and urged Nigerians to be part of the nation’s security architecture by being vigilant and reporting suspicious individuals and activities to law enforcement agencies.

He admonished Nigerians to report suspicious activities and persons to the N-Alert application, adding that security is everybody’s responsibility.
