“It’s now compulsory” Jigawa Govt mandates Hijab wear for female security operatives

by Folarin Kehinde April 16, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Jigawa State Government has made a significant decision regarding the attire of female security operatives in the state.

According to a recent announcement, the government has directed three private security firms operating in the state to allow their female workers to wear hijabs while on duty.

This was announced by the State Executive Council through the Commissioner of Information, Sagir Musa, while briefing newsmen on the resolutions of the Council’s meeting held on Tuesday evening at the Press Gallery, Government House, Dutse, the state capital.

He stated that the directive is part of the government’s efforts to provide an inclusive and enabling environment for all citizens, particularly women.

By allowing female security operatives to wear hijabs, the government is empowering them to practice their religious and cultural beliefs without restriction. This decision is expected to boost the morale and confidence of female security operatives in the state,” he noted.

The commissioner explained that the decision follows a report presented by the Council Committee on Schools, Hospital, and Court Security.

He stated, “These companies are to allow female security operatives among the 9,969 young people recruited to wear Hijabs while on duty, as a matter of religious and cultural accommodation.”

“This move reaffirms the administration’s support for respectful workplace policies that uphold modesty, inclusion, and dignity,” said the commissioner.

Additionally, Mr. Musa revealed that the directive is expected to impact female security operatives positively, allowing them to practice their religious and cultural beliefs while performing their duties.

written by Folarin Kehinde

The Jigawa State Government has approved N4,836,546,000 for this year’s Ramadan Feeding Programme, which aims to support the vulnerable during the fasting period.

Announcing the decision after a recent council meeting at the Government House in Dutse, the State Commissioner of Information, Sagir Musa, revealed that the programme would be jointly funded by the state government and local government administrations.

“The state government will cover 55 per cent of the total cost, while the local government councils will contribute the remaining 45 per cent,” Musa stated.

He said that to enhance the programme’s reach, the number of feeding centres has been increased from 609 last year to 630.

He added that each centre caters to 300 people and provides three different meals per person, including Kunu, Kosai, and Jollof rice.

The commissioner said in addition to the feeding programme, the council also approved the revitalization of 114 ward-level Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) across the state.

He stated that the project, valued at N9.7 billion, is part of the government’s commitment to Universal Health Care coverage and is being implemented under the World Bank-supported IMPACT Programme.

written by Folarin Kehinde

A fuel tanker explosion at the Jigawa-Kano border on Tuesday, November 12, sparked panic as fire erupted along Maiduri Road, according to the Federal Fire Service (FFS) Jigawa Command.

Aliyu M. A., the FFS’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, revealing swift action by emergency responders.

At approximately 10:43 hours on November 12, 2024, we received a distress call from Kuho Village Head, Zubairu Ahmad, reporting a tanker accident at Tsaida, Kwanar Kalle, near Gamoji village,” Aliyu stated.

He added, “The FFS responded promptly, arriving at the scene by 10:50 hours. The fire was contained and brought under control.”

The incident follows a deadly tanker explosion in October that claimed over 170 lives in Majia, Taura Local Government Area. In that instance, a petrol-laden truck travelling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State exploded, causing widespread casualties.

Though no casualties were reported in the latest fire, the recurrence of such incidents has raised public concerns over fuel transportation safety in Jigawa.
