INEC Rejects APC New Results On AMAC Elections

by Folarin Kehinde September 21, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Independent National Electoral Commission has completely rejected the results tendered to the FCT election tribunal by the APC, in a case against Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, the winner of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election.

Responding to the trial Judge in response to the authenticity of the result the APC tendered at the lower tribunal, INEC Council Barrister Umar Alhassan, represented by Hassan Aminu, insisted that the People Democratic Party, PDP, candidate who polled 19,302 votes to defeat Murtala Karshi of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 13,240 votes.

The electoral umpire therefore, reaffirmed that the document it tendered at the lower Tribunal is the true reflection of what occurred at the February 12, 2022 FCT Area Councils election that announced the candidate of the PDP as the authentic winner of the election.

Also, at the three man Appeal Panel led by the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Suleiman Belgore, INEC Counsel informed the Tribunal members that the result presented by their lawyers at the lower which upturned the Zakka’s election subsides.

However, in a clear dislocation of justice, the lower Tribunal had early on Friday, allocated over 21,000 votes to PDP’s challenger, Mr. Murtala Karshi with the current AMAC Chairman Zakka still maintaining 19000 votes.
