FCTA Staffs Return to Office After Wike, Unions Reach Agreement

by Nelson Ugwuagbo February 3, 2026
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Organised labour and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have resolved their dispute, clearing the way for affected workers to immediately return to work.

The development was announced in a circular issued on Tuesday to affiliates of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Abuja.

The circular was jointly signed by TUC Secretary-General, Nuhu Toro, and Acting NLC General Secretary, Benson Upah.

According to the notice, the breakthrough followed a conciliatory meeting between labour leaders and the FCT minister, convened at the instance of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Mohammed Bomoi.

The meeting, which commenced at about 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, lasted until approximately 3:51 a.m. on Monday after prolonged deliberations.

Organised labour stated that all concerns raised by members of the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) were thoroughly addressed during the discussions.

The circular further noted that the FCT minister assured labour unions of mutual respect and pledged continued engagement on workers’ welfare and related issues.

Both parties also agreed that no worker would face victimisation for participating in the strike, while all pending cases at the National Industrial Court would be withdrawn immediately.

FCTA Workers, NLC Storm Industrial Court, Demand Wike Sack

by Nelson Ugwuagbo January 26, 2026
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), backed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Monday besieged the National Industrial Court in Abuja in continuation of an ongoing total and indefinite strike over unresolved labour disputes.

The protest followed a directive by the NLC endorsing the industrial action, which it described as justified in the face of what it called persistent violations of workers’ rights by the FCTA management and political leadership.

The demonstrators, who carried placards with inscriptions such as “Wike must go”, “Abuja no be Rivers”, “Pay promotion arrears”, “Enough is Enough” and “No working tools”, accused the authorities of failing to address longstanding grievances, including unpaid promotion arrears and poor working conditions.

Wike-Led PDP Faction Threatens to Boycott Convention Over Unmet Demands

by Nelson Ugwuagbo September 3, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

A group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), known as the Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders, has threatened to work against the party if its latest demands are not met ahead of the national convention slated for November.

The group, led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, warned that failure to implement its resolutions would render the convention invalid, alleging that legitimate members would be disenfranchised.

The stakeholders met in Abuja on Monday and issued a communique at the end of their closed-door meeting, attended by the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and other key figures, including former governors Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Ayo Fayose of Ekiti, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Kingsley Chinda, and suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule.

The group insisted that the PDP must conduct fresh congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra states in line with court rulings, organise a new and legitimate South-East zonal congress, recognise the South-South congress held in Calabar which produced Chief Dan Orbih as National Vice Chairman, and immediately conduct the Ekiti State local government congresses in compliance with judicial orders.

Speaking after the meeting, Wike declared he would not abandon the PDP, stressing that he had invested too much in the party to allow “buccaneers and vampires” to take over. He, however, maintained that the outcome of the South-South congress must be upheld, warning that failure to do so could trigger “another round of crisis.”

Sources within the party revealed that Wike is pushing to secure assurances that his loyalists retain influence in the PDP structure, particularly in the South-South, while also pressing for the removal of some National Working Committee members he believes acted against his interests during the 2023 presidential primaries.

APC National Convention: Ameachi Doles Out $10m To Support Sen. Abdullahi Adamu Candidacy

by Leading Reporters March 26, 2022
written by Leading Reporters

The Honourable Minister of Transport, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, is allegedly on a spending spree to support his preferred candidate, Senator Abdullahi Adamu who is running for the office of the Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress.  Discreet information availed LeadingReporters revealed that the Minister is said to have so far availed a whopping sum of N600m as a ‘welcome package’ for All Progressive Congress delegates who are currently in Abuja for the ruling party’s national convention holding in Eagle Square.

A discreet source who is in the know told LeadingReporters that the cash-spree is to ensure the emergence of Senator Abdullahi Adamu as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress party.

Amaechi is believed to be one of the presidential aspirants of the party who is believed to be seriously working from behind the scenes towards actualizing his presidential ambition.

The source said that Amaechi is doing everything possible to ensure the emergence of the former Governor of Nasarawa State,  Senator Adamu Abdullahi, who by Amaechi’s calculation would aid him to seamlessly pick the party’s presidential ticket.

However, Amaechi loyalists and close associates still believe that erstwhile Governor of Rivers State has many hurdles to cross.  One of such huddles is said to be a criminal case leveled against him by Nyesom Wike-led Rivers State Government.  Wike has previously constituted a commission of inquiry to probe into the era of his predecessor.  The commission, after their investigation alleged that Rotimi Amaechi embezzled N96billion and criminally sold Rivers State property unilaterally when he served as Governor.  The Transport Minister was unable to stop the probe, using the instrumentality of the court.  The case is currently in Supreme Court of Nigeria. The apex court has fixed May 2 for hearing on the matter.

Another factor feared may clog the wheel of Amaechi’s presidential ambition borders on certain secret information linked to Amaechi, including a recorded audio tape where Amaechi was heard tongue-lashing President Muhammadu Buhari, and calling him unprintable names.  He was said to have shared very secret information regarding the President’s penchant for foreign loans. Although it was learned that Amaechi was able to suppress the spread of the tape, using a popular Auchi based clergy, there are indication that the information is already in the hands those who may use it as a political weapon come 2023.
