Society for Women Engineers trains FCT students on STEM education

As part of efforts aimed at increasing awareness among girls and women in the information and communication technology sector, the Society for Women Engineers (SWE) has trained female students on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) educated in the Federal Capital Territory.

The chairperson, SWE, FCT chapter, engineer Anthea Udo while speaking in Abuja on Thursday stated that the program aims to
educate girls and encourage and empower them to become well-versed in STEM education.

Udo noted that the importance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) among cannot be overemphasized considering the global trends and innovative advancement in the 21st century.

Meanwhile, the country director, Odyssey Education
Foundation, Mrs. Stella Dennis stated that the ICT program is designed to
teach girls in secondary schools about technology so that they can create things like
robots.

“They will understand what a basic robot is and how robots are being programmed
because this is microcontrollers are what is present in every robot no matter how big it
is.”

One of the beneficiary of the training Anyanwu Sylvia expressed optimism on knowledge impacted and promised to explore the ICT world while impacting also on others.

“Well, I say I’m
really proud and I believe that this knowledge you people are impacting on us
will go a long way to the society, most especially the youth and the students at large.”
