A nurse in Enugu State, Joy Ezeugwu, is being questioned by police following her arrest over a viral video highlighting poor working conditions at a public health facility.
Ezeugwu, a staff member of Uwani General Hospital, was reportedly arrested on Monday by officers from the Police Force Headquarters Annex, FCID, Enugu.
Her arrest was first disclosed by education technologist Alex Onyia in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
In an update, Onyia said the nurse is currently at the police facility responding to allegations contained in a petition filed by the administrator of her former school, Ifeyinwa Peace Okwudu.
According to him, Okwudu is demanding N10 million in damages, citing emotional and psychological harm.
Onyia, who accompanied the nurse to the facility, alleged that the petition was an attempt to intimidate her, while also criticising what he described as a pattern of oppression within institutions.
The controversy stems from a video shared by Ezeugwu in April, in which she exposed deteriorating conditions at the hospital, including the lack of electricity and running water.
The footage, which circulated widely on social media, showed health workers expressing concern over the impact of the conditions on patient care.
Following the video, Ezeugwu was reportedly suspended from duty.
