Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has donated N10 million to Remo Stars in celebration of their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, marking a significant gesture of support for the newly crowned champions.
Osimhen made a personal video call to the team before announcing the donation, with N5 million allocated to the players and another N5 million to the technical crew. Head coach Daniel Ogunmodede confirmed the development while addressing reporters, as tributes poured in from across the country.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lauded the club’s triumph, describing it as a reflection of the players’ and management’s dedication and resilience.
“The historic victory, four years after the team’s promotion to the elite league, is a testament to the hard work, discipline, and unyielding spirit of the players, the coaching crew, and the management,” President Tinubu said in a statement.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun also praised the achievement, calling it an unprecedented moment in the state’s sporting history. In a statement issued by his media adviser, the governor said, “It is my utmost delight that the age-long perseverance and consistency of Remo Stars Football team have eventually paid off at the national level and to the admiration of every Nigerian.”
He further commended the club’s emergence as the first privately owned NPFL champion since Ocean Boys in 2006.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) joined in celebrating the feat, describing it as a moment of “immense pride” not just for Remo Stars but for the entire southwest region, which had not produced a league champion since Julius Berger’s title win in 2000.
