Manchester United confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new manager on Friday. The 39-year-old will remain with Sporting Lisbon until November 11 before officially taking charge.
Amorim has signed a contract with United lasting until June 2027, with an option to extend for an additional year. United paid Sporting Lisbon an extra €1 million (£840,000) beyond Amorim’s €10 million (£8.4 million) release clause to expedite his move.
Amorim will step in as Erik ten Hag’s successor, following the latter’s dismissal on Monday. Ruud van Nistelrooy will maintain his role as interim manager until Amorim’s arrival.
United’s upcoming fixture is a home league match against Chelsea on Sunday, with Amorim’s first game expected to be a Premier League clash away at Ipswich Town.
