NAFDAC destroys fake, expired drugs, food worth N500 million

by Nelson Ugwuagbo October 19, 2023
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

NAFDAC says the exercise is carried out routinely all over Nigeria.

NAFDAC destruction exercise of fake, seized and expired goods in Abuja on Wednesday
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Wednesday destroyed fake and expired goods worth over N500 million in Abuja.
Speaking during the exercise, the Director-General (DG) of the agency, Mojisola Adeyeye, stated that some of the goods were also voluntarily submitted to the agency.

Represented by Francis Ononiwu, NAFDAC director of Investigation and Enforcement, the DG stated that the exercise is carried out routinely all over the country.
The NAFDAC boss said that the destruction of the products was done to prevent their re-introduction to the supply chain.

Mrs Adeyeye listed some of the products destroyed as drugs made up of psychoactive and controlled substances like antibiotics, antihypertensive, antimalarials, herbal snuff and herbal remedies, and drugs confiscated from drug hawkers.
She also listed the food products such as Spaghetti, vegetable oil, and non-alcoholic beverages, including a 1 by 40ft container of unregistered Faurecia instant-powered milk that was handed over to the agency by the Nigeria Customs Services (NCS).
Others were cosmetics such as creams, lotion, and pomade, including skin-lightening creams seized from SPAS and beauty centres, chemicals such as fake insecticides and medical devices.
Also destroyed were expired and unwholesome products voluntarily handed over for destruction by compliant companies, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and the Association of Community Pharmacy of Nigeria (ACPN).
According to the NAFDAC boss, the estimated street value of the products being destroyed is N535 million.
“I have said it on several platforms that drug counterfeiting is an act of economic sabotage, and it also represents a serious threat to public health, and NAFDAC under my watch has been repositioned to fight this menace.
”The agency has adapted proactive approach by engaging political, traditional, faith leaders, journalists and other Nigerians to sensitise their wards on the dangers of dealing with substandard and falsified medicine.
“I wish to use this medium to urge all and sundry to be on the lookout for spurious and counterfeit medicines, unwholesome foods and other regulated products and report same to NAFDAC,” she said.
NAFDAC and security officials during the destruction Isiaku Gamajira, FCT Coordinator, Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), stated that NAFDAC is a sister agency when it comes to the regulation of products, hence the reason why SON was at the event.
He noted that many people lack education on how to get certification for their products, stressing that it is the reason why most goods from Nigeria are rejected abroad.
“We are aware of government policy on zero rejection of Nigeria products, we have a policy called product certification in which a certificate is issued on products made in Nigeria that are to be exported.
“In doing all these, we ensure that we key into the principle set up in line with the government of the exporting country, and issue a certificate of performance to avoid Nigeria’s product rejection when they get to the point of entry.
“We have offices all over the country where information about product certification can be gotten, our addresses are also available online for you to reach out to us.
“We provide people with proper guidance when they approach us, SON has been carrying out its compliance activities among which is the seizure of substandard products. We have just destroyed tyres
“Tyre is a product which lives depend on and SON has a serious interest when it comes to compliance action, seizure in that regard, on September 29, SON destroyed a lot of tyres and these are some of the things we do

“Most of these tyres are imported, it is our own commonwealth, If you see the quantum of what we have destroyed in the last few months, you will be surprised,” Gamajira said.
Enejoh Amade, chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), FCT Chapter, said his association would continue to support NAFDAC to rid the country of substandard drugs.
He said that his association had partnered with NAFDAC on the exercise by bringing some expired drugs collected from members of ACPN.

How We Tied, Killed Hotel Owner During Threesome – Kwara Poly Students

by Nelson Ugwuagbo October 12, 2023
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Two female students of Kwara State Polytechnic, Joy Adama and Vandora Oreoluwa, have confessed to how they killed a prominent Kwara socialite, Adeniyi Ojo, when they were being paraded by the Police.

The suspects, while being paraded by the police confessed to murdering the deceased, who was the Managing Director of Waterview Hotels, Tanke, Ilorin, following failed plots to dispossess him of his funds.

The suspects said the deceased agreed to a BDSM form of sex, meaning bondage and discipline, dominance and Submission, sadism and masochism.

BDSM is a way of having sex in which one partner plays a dominant role, while the other is more submissive.

The suspect said, “The idea was that if he agrees to do BDSM with us, BDSM is the kind of sex where you tie the person’s hands and legs.

“So, while his hands and legs are tied, we can take cash or whatever valuables we can find and leave with it,” the suspects said.

“It now turned out that it started raining. So, instead of us going to the car, he now told us to go across to a building that was across the garden when we went to meet him.

“When we got to the room, we were on the bed with him. My friend tied his hands and legs.

“Based on the fact that we were in a room and not in a car because normally, we thought that if you want to have car sex with somebody, it cannot be in a public place that people can easily see or hear.

“But because it was in a room, we were already thinking about what we were going to do in case he starts shouting.”

The suspects said they had Rohypnol in their bags, which they attempted to put in the club owner’s mouth to put him to sleep, but he objected, stating he could perform without an external boost.

“The man did not have cash or any valuables with him that day, and we did not go to his car. So, there was nothing else we could do except if we were able to get money from his account,” they said.

“So, when my friend put the phone in front of his face, that was when he now freaked out and started shouting. I don’t know how he managed to loosen the rope that was used to tie his hands

“He then started to hit my friend and he started shouting. She took a pillow and placed it over his face to muffle his scream.

“Suddenly, he just went calm. I got down from the bed, and I told my friend that I think this man is pretending to be asleep so that when we let our guard down, he will stand up and try to hurt us.

“So, my friend went to the door, and she turned the key of the door pretending as if we were leaving, and she said she saw him open one of his eyes.

“We then went to him and were begging him to wake up, that we want to go. We will not do anything to him because we felt he was pretending, but he didn’t answer.

“We did not discover he was dead until when the police apprehended us.

“We already went home. It was while I was at home that the police came to apprehend us. I even thought that it was because we left with the man’s phone that was why they came to apprehend us.

“And we gave them the phone and the sim card only to find out later that at the time we thought he was pretending, he was already dead.”

Parading the suspects in Abuja, the spokesperson of the police force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the suspects were apprehended through meticulous investigative work.

“Our officers were able to track and apprehend these suspects in Mowe Ibafo, Ogun State, he added.

Adejobi stated that a total of 54 suspects were arrested by the operatives of DFI-IRT and DFI-STS, some of whom were already facing prosecution in court for the various cases for which they were indicted.

He listed recovered weapons to include “92 firearms, 760 live ammunition, 14 exhibit vehicles, one forged document, 120 magazines, two IEDs, one suicide belt as well as cash sums of fake currencies totaling $970, marked as exhibits for the prosecution of the various cases.”

The police also aressred suspected kidnappers involved in a Swiss national’s abduction.

The suspects include Nneka Okpara, from Ikeduru LGA in Imo State; Emu Larry Chidiebere 34, a resident of Ika North East LGA in Delta State; Babatunde Femi 30, originally from Owode Obafemi LGA in Ogun State; Williams Banjo Omotayo 28, with roots in Epe LGA, Lagos State and Samuel Balogun 22, from Isale-Oja LGA in Oyo State.

According to the spokesperson of the Command, Benjamin Hundeyin: “The Lagos State Police Command hereby declares wanted, Benjamin Best Nnanyereugo.

“Nnanyereugo is suspected to have murdered his girlfriend, 21-year-old Augusta Onuwabhagbe Osedion, on July 13, 2023, in his Oral Estate, Ajah home and, following the exhaustion of all available options to bring him in, he is declared wanted.

Worried by the development, her mother reached out to the daughter’s roommate, who led her to the boyfriend’s house, at Oral Estate, Ikota, Ajah.

According to her mother who reported the case to the police on July 15, when we got to my daughter’s boyfriend’s house, her Mercedes Benz C30 was parked in front of the building but the apartment was locked. “I then invited the police who forced the door open only to see the decomposing body of my daughter.”

Following the discovery, Augusta’s remains were later recovered by detectives led by DPO Ajah who visited the scene.

The police said that the corpse was recovered, despite its fast decomposing state. Marks of violence and signs of struggle were detected on the body, which was deposited at General Hospital mortuary, Yaba, for autopsy and preservation.

However, three months after the police recovered a note at the crime scene, cordoned off the scene to enable crime operatives gather evidence and launched investigations into the incident, the prime suspect has been declared wanted.

DSS Scare: MINT hides deluxe cars acquired for Executive Directors

by Leading Reporters September 22, 2023
written by Leading Reporters

The Ahmed Halilu-led Nigeria Security, Printing and Minting, popularly called MINT is in deep waters and doing everything to cover tracks of its perennial corruption and wastefulness. This time, according to information unveiled by LeadingReporters, posh cars acquired for top management staff have been relocated and hidden away from the MINT main factory to a secret corner in Tawada Nigeria Limited.

The latest moves follow the invitation of the top management staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria and its affiliate, the Nigeria Security, Printing and Minting (MINT), by the Department of State Security Services DSS.

Recall that DSS arrested the Governor of the Central Bank, Mr. Godwin Emiefele following reports of untamed corruption that characterized his leadership. Others, invited include the former Managing Director of Nigeria Security, Printing and Minting Abbas Umar Masanawa. The duo of Emiefele and Masanawa were arrested and detained. Masanawa has been however granted conditional bail while investigation continues, according to information available to this platform.

Others invited by DSS are the Deputy Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the current Managing Director of MINT, Ahmed Halilu.

A close source who is in the know informed this platform that no sooner Halilu was questioned and interrogated by DSS than he ordered that the vehicles, previously parked conspicuously in MINT factory be relocated to a more inaccessible corner in their subsidiary company, Tawada Nigeria Limited.

The source said that Mr. Halilu is covering all tracks that may lead to more discovery of the perennial anomaly that has characterized MINT, including a missing N25 billion which allegedly missed from the coffers of MINT.

Halilu, whose tenure has elapsed is one of the Central Bank Governor’s associates who joined him from the Zenith Bank. He took over as the Managing Director when his predecessor, Abbas Umar Masanawa resigned to contest for the governorship election of Katsina State.

Mr. Masanawa worked with Emiefele in Zenith Bank, just like Mr. Halilu and allegedly use his personal company called Preferred Global Company Limited to corner billions of Naira from MINT into secret accounts in Zenith, against the Code.of Conduct Act.

Breaking: Emiefele Escapes Nigeria through Seme Border:  Zenith Bank-Cult boys in MINT, NIRSAL, others jittery over a can of worms being unearthed

by Leading Reporters August 30, 2023
written by Leading Reporters

Goerge Emiefele, the younger brother of the embattled Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emiefele has escaped to London en route to the United States of America, through Cotonou, LeadingReporters can exclusively report.  His escape follows his inability to secure a court order interdicting the Department of State Security Services and the Attorney General of the Federation from arresting and prosecuting him.

Goerge who until his escape worked with NEM Insurance PLC, through the help of the Central Bank Governor had unfettered access to the coffers of the Nigeria, Security and Minting Company, popularly called MINT where the sum of N1.5billion was constantly wired to him under the guise of Annual Premium.

Our investigation further revealed that George Emiefele who, until his escape was the DGM marketing in NEM Insurance collected the sum of N80million every month from Tawada Nigeria Limited (an affiliate of CBN responsible for the production of inks and raw materials used in printing currencies and other security documents) as coverage for marine insurance.

To ensure that such transaction was not traced to him, Goerge in connivance with the former Managing Director of Nigeria Security, Printing and Minting Mr Abbas Umar Masanawa (who is currently under investigation by the Department of State Security Services DSS), and the current MINT MD, Halilu Ahmed, fronted another insurance company called Assured Capital Insurance Brokers Limited from where the monies are paid and forwarded to him.

A source who is in the know of the behind-the-scenes deals revealed to LeadingReporters that Goerge ran the deal with his kinsman Joseph Ebete, the general manager of Assured Capital Insurance Brokers Ltd.  Goerge as well extended his looting spree to other agencies, companies, and affiliates of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

George Emiefele, according to information unveiled by LeadingReporters leveraged his relationship with Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emiefele milked all the agencies and companies affiliated with the Central Bank of Nigeria such as MINT, Tawada, NIRSAL,

Meanwhile, information available to LeadingReporters has revealed that Godwin Emiefele’s boys, popularly referred to as Emiefele Zenith-Bank-Cult boys in top management positions in MINT, NIRSAL, Tawada are all jittery.  A source said that Emiefele boys are doing everything possible in MINT and NIRSAL to cover links and alter records in favour of the embattled Central Bank Governor Godwin Emiefele.

An insider source who is part of the team investigating Godwin Emefiele hinted that a lot happened under the watch of the embattled CBN Governor and that soon, Nigerians would be surprised to know the level of impunity, recklessness and untamed corruption that occurred under Emiefele’s Watch.
