Kogi Government Bans Rallies, Security Convoys Over State Insecurity

by Nelson Ugwuagbo March 31, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Kogi State Government has imposed a ban on rallies and the use of security convoys in response to recent killings and crises in parts of the state.

The decision was announced on Monday in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, following a meeting between the state government, traditional rulers, and security agencies.

Fanwo stated that the government had reviewed the security situation and implemented the measures to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

“The Kogi State Government remains unwavering in its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring peace and security. In light of credible intelligence reports, the government has deemed it necessary to take proactive measures to prevent any form of security breach that could destabilize the state,” the statement read.

While the state witnessed a peaceful Sallah celebration, Fanwo noted that security threats in certain areas had led to violence. In Kasemiya, Katubo, and Umozu Ette, all in Kogi Local Government Area, clashes over fishing activities resulted in the loss of two lives. Consequently, the government has suspended all fishing activities in the area until peace is fully restored, with security operatives deployed to enforce the directive.

In Ankpa Local Government Area, a communal clash between Ika-Odele and Ika-Ochala in Enjema District is reportedly threatening stability in Kogi East. The state government has dispatched security forces to contain the situation and prevent further loss of lives and property. Peace talks between the two communities, facilitated by the government, are ongoing.

Additionally, intelligence reports indicate that certain groups in Kogi Central are planning violent rallies under the guise of political and religious agitations. Fanwo warned that such gatherings could lead to destruction and unrest.

“In view of these security concerns, the Kogi State Government has placed a total ban on all forms of rallies or public gatherings that could disrupt public peace. This decision follows intelligence reports suggesting that certain individuals intend to infiltrate the state using fake security personnel to foment trouble,” the statement added.

While acknowledging the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, the government emphasized that security considerations must take precedence. Consequently, no individual, group, or organization will be permitted to hold rallies in the state until further notice.

To strengthen security, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo met with the Kogi State Traditional Council, led by the Attah of Igala, Matthew Opaluwa Alaji, to discuss measures for ensuring stability. The traditional rulers commended the government’s proactive steps in safeguarding lives and property.

Furthermore, the government has mandated that any individual or group entering the state with a security convoy must obtain prior clearance from the relevant state security commands.

“The state has received intelligence indicating attempts by some individuals to enter Kogi under the pretense of being security personnel, with intentions of causing unrest. This directive aims to prevent unauthorized movement of armed individuals and ensure that only duly accredited security agents operate within the state,” the statement concluded.

State Speakers Condemn Lynching of Northern Travelers in Edo

by Nelson Ugwuagbo March 31, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria (CSSLN) has condemned the lynching of 16 northern travelers in Uromi, Edo State, describing the incident as barbaric and horrific.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by CSSLN Chairman and Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, the speakers decried the mob violence as a gross violation of human rights and a threat to peace and security.

“The CSSLN strongly condemns the horrific lynching of 16 northern travelers who were on transit and accused of possessing dane guns (local firearms),” Ogundoyin stated.

“These individuals were tragically killed by a mob in Uromi, Edo State, on Friday, March 28, 2025. The actions of the so-called vigilante group members responsible are barbaric and unjustifiable.”

The speakers stressed that such extrajudicial killings undermine the rule of law and erode societal values.

While commending the Edo State government and security agencies for their swift response, they urged authorities to intensify efforts to ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested, and prosecuted.

The CSSLN also called for stricter oversight of community policing structures established by state governments to prevent abuses.

“It is essential to ensure that these local security operatives function with professionalism, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law. Effective oversight will safeguard the integrity of these initiatives and prevent them from becoming instruments of injustice,” the statement read.

The speakers extended their condolences to the families of the victims, expressing solidarity in their time of grief.

Pray for your husbands, nurture your children in Godly way, RCCG women advise mothers

by Folarin Kehinde March 30, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Kenny & Nelson

In continuation of the 2025 International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day Celebration, distinguished women in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has advised mothers to always pray for their husbands and be exemplary role models for their children.

Wife of Pastor-in-charge, RCCG House of David Zone, Pastor (Mrs) Oluwatoyin Kings in her message to the women in the zone stated that imbibing the character of living an exemplary life and praying for their husbands will bring peace into the family.

Mrs Kings explained that mothers are destiny molders not murderers hence they should exhibit characters that people will say blessed is the womb that carried the children and not otherwise adding that they should rise up to such occasion, be mothers indeed and role models to their children.

“As a mother, I would encourage mothers in House of David that they should rise
up to the occasion and be mothers indeed, role models to their children.

“Pray for your husband, nurture your children in the way of the Lord. That is where their peace lies. When you don’t nurture the children in the way of the Lord, you are only planning or cooking up their pain, their tomorrow pain.”.

She stressed that no perfect marriage exist hence mothers known as home builders should ensure that they are focused, appreciate humble beginning and trust God with their family.

“Don’t look down on today’s small beginning. Just have focus and trust God together. It’s better to start on a humble background and end up great, than to start on a great beginning and end up small. So, my advice to them is that they should stay focused, be more prayerful, be more committed to God, and not leave their homefront for any other thing.

“Abigail was a mother, she was a wife indeed. When David would have killed her husband and the entire generation, God used her to intervene. So, I want our mothers to play the role of Abigail in their homes and the Lord will help them in Jesus’ name.”. She added.

Wife of Head of Department, Technical & Media Unit, RCCG House of David Zone, Mrs Tina Oseagha advocated for urgent need affordable healthcare needs and education for women.

Mrs Oseagha emphasized that
If women are educated and well informed, they will make drastic and good decision about healthcare for themselves and their families bearing in mind that they are superheroes hence they want the best for their families.

“Educated woman will always seek timely medical care, adopt healthy behavior and preventive measures that will keep the family in good health.

“Education and mentorship have a huge role to play in empowering our women and girls, most especially in most male dominated industries and organization. We have strong women in our society that can break barriers. If such women will have access to guidance, advice, support, and networks that offers a sense of belonging and community, where women and girls can connect with like minded individuals.”.

She however advised women to come out of their comfort zone, learn new skills, be innovative and embrace new challenges, ignore toxic behaviors but rather channel their energy to profitable ventures.

Assistant Pastor RCCG, House of David Zone, Pastor (Mrs) Halima Oyelade on her part noted that mothers should train their children in the way of the Lord by teaching and praying for them while living an exemplary life worthy of emulation.

Mrs Oyelade emphasized that mothers should love their children and spend quality time with them, an act which she said will build confidence and trust in their parents.

“One of the greatest thing is to train up your kids in the way of the Lord. Be an example to your kids. Teach them and let your life be an example. Love them and train them by spending time with them.

“Children spell love as time. Let your kids be able to confide in you, Pray and commit them in the hands of God while you also teach them the truth.

She however noted that motherhood is not just a phase in life for mothers but a step towards building faith considering the challenges encountered in raising the children adding that action speaks louder than words, hence children are ready to copy whatever their parents does either good or bad.

written by Folarin Kehinde

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has debunked reports claiming that his principal slumped in Abuja.

Posts circulating on X (formerly Twitter) alleged that the Minister collapsed at an event on Friday in the nation’s capital.

The rumour also claimed that Wike was immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

However, when contacted by DAILY POST, Olayinka simply said the report is “fake.”

This comes amid the political tension in Rivers State, sparked by the face-off between the suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Wike, his estranged political godfather.

DAILY POST reports that the political crisis in the state took another dimension on Friday when the former Head of Service in the state, George Nwaeke, peddled a series of allegations against Fubara.

Atiku Denies Receiving Funds From Sanwo-Olu During 2023 election

by Nelson Ugwuagbo March 28, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed allegations linking him to purported financial transactions involving Lagos State funds, describing the claims as a politically motivated smear campaign.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, the Atiku Media Office refuted reports suggesting that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, provided financial support to Atiku during the 2023 presidential election.

The statement, titled “Halt This Tinubu’s Voyage of Misadventure and Campaign of Calumny against Atiku Abubakar,” described the allegations as “blatant lies” and “contrived political propaganda” aimed at tarnishing Atiku’s image.

“The Waziri of Adamawa does not know Governor Sanwo-Olu and has never met him before. The idea that Atiku, who has no connection with Sanwo-Olu, would be involved in a financial transaction with him during the 2023 election is baseless and illogical,” the statement read.

Atiku’s media team alleged that the reports were part of a broader political plot to undermine both Governor Sanwo-Olu and opposition figures, including Atiku.

The statement also challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to make public its findings on the claims, stressing that the matter was being used as a political tool.

Atiku’s camp further urged President Bola Tinubu’s associates to halt what it described as a smear campaign, stating that such tactics would not deter the opposition from pursuing its political objectives.

Tinubu’s Second Term Guaranteed, Says Akpabio

by Folarin Kehinde March 28, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Senate President Godswill Akpabio says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can rest assured that his second term in office is guaranteed, notwithstanding the ongoing plot by the opposition to unseat him in the 2027 poll.

Speaking during the special Iftar/Lent dinner organized by the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) aimed at strengthening fellowship and deepening bonds of unity among governors, National Assembly members, ministers, top government functionaries, and the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Wednesday night, he expressed optimism that the APC would also sweep more elective seats across the country in the 2027 poll.

Applauding the Governor Hope Uzodinma-led PGF for organizing the event, he called on party stalwarts across the country to work together to achieve the objective.

He said: “Can we say amen! We will offer prayers for our party, that yes, indeed, victory shall be ours in 2027. Can we say a loud amen! And we will also pray for Mr. President that his second term is assured. Can we shout a loud amen!

So, for the party, our governors, you will grow in numbers, you will grow in numbers. On our part in the parliament, ours is to continue to add the numbers to you. We just recently sent one of our own in the Senate to go and take care of Edo State. Is that not a good thing?”

Uzodinma remarked that the occasion allows party stalwarts to pray, reason, and work together in the task of nation-building, adding that all hands must be on deck to ensure the victory of the APC in the 2027 poll.

Because we practice partisan democracy, and because we produce the government, we must take ownership of the government no matter where we are and where we sit. The success of the government is our collective success. The failure of the government is our collective failure. And the government is like a product,” he noted.

And all of us are marketing officers that must market this product. So the whole idea behind this… is to once more have a platform to appreciate ourselves, to celebrate our own, because the government is our own.
