The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has confirmed the release of seven Israeli hostages from Gaza, marking the first step in implementing a US-brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Under the terms of the deal, Israel is expected to release nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees during the initial phase of the exchange.

US President Donald Trump is en route to Israel, where he is set to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and address the Knesset. The president will also meet with several families of the released hostages.

In a statement posted on X, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said:
“According to information received, the Red Cross is on its way to a meeting point in northern Gaza where several hostages will be transferred into their custody. The IDF is prepared to receive additional hostages who are expected to be transferred to the Red Cross later on.”

The release marks a significant development in efforts to de-escalate months of conflict and pave the way for broader peace talks.
