Natasha: 2Face’s Family Writes DSS, Declares Singer Missing For Over 72 Hours

by Folarin Kehinde February 14, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The family of Nigerian singer, Innocent (2Face) Idibia has written to the Department of State Services over an alleged disappearance of their son.

The Idibia’s family in a petition dated February 7, said the singer left his residence in his lounge-wear and has been missing since February 10.

Signed by Wilson Anuge, the Idibia’s family said the singer has not returned home since he left for what they described as his habitual walk.

Anuge said in the petition, “We are writing to urgently seek your assistance regarding a profoundly troubling situation involving a member of the Idibia family, Mr Innocent Idibia (also known as Tuface or 2Baba), whom our client reasonably believes has been missing since Monday, February 10, 2025.

“We believe that Mr Innocent left his residence in the early hours of 10 February 2025 in his loungewear, suggesting that he was going for his habitual walk, but he has not returned home since then. Despite the best efforts of his family, staff, and the management of his record label to reach or locate him—including contacting his friends and acquaintances—they have been unable to establish any contact or ascertain his whereabouts,” he stated.

He also said that inquiries from friends and other members of the family show that no one has heard from 2Face in the past 72 hours as he has also abandoned his work and completely severed contact with everyone.

Expressing their deep concern, the singer’s family said some relatives and associates of 2Face had received messages from his social media accounts demanding for financial assistance – a suggestion that he might have been kidnapped.

The petition said, “These messages are alarming, as Mr Innocent is financially independent and has never required assistance in such a manner. This has led his family to suspect that his identity may have been compromised and that someone may have abducted him, actively manipulating him to exploit his contacts for monetary gain.

“The implications of this situation are grave, and the possibility of foul play or coercion cannot be overlooked. As a family, our clients are deeply worried not only about his physical safety but also about the potential misuse of his identity while he remains unaccounted for,”it added.

They further called on the secret police to use its resources to trace the whereabouts of the singer as his current disappearance has had a negative impact on his wife and children.

Recall that 2Face had in a post on his Instagram story announced a divorce from his wife, Annie. The singer subsequently said he has found a new love and was preparing to remarry.

He was later captured in a viral video proposing to 31-year-old Edo State lawmaker, Natasha Osaruwa.

The singer’s mother has since taken to social media to alleged that the lawmaker had used some charms to hold her son down.

2Face’s mother also used the opportunity to call on Osaruwa to let go of her son whom she said was delusional.

The singer engaged the Edo State lawmaker days after announcing his divorce from Annie Macaulay, his wife.

Lara George Blast Nigerian Churches For Underpaying Local Gospel Artists

by Nelson Ugwuagbo February 12, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

US-based Nigerian gospel singer, Lara George, has criticized churches that fail to fairly compensate local gospel artists for their performances while paying large sums to foreign artists.

In a social media post, George condemned the disparity, questioning why Nigerian gospel musicians often perform for little or no payment, whereas international artists are offered substantial fees. She urged her followers to reflect on the issue, asking if their perception of foreign gospel artists would change if they knew some charged as much as $100,000 for church performances.

George also raised concerns about the wealth of some pastors, questioning whether their lavish lifestyles were funded by personal earnings from books and CDs or through tithes and offerings from congregants.

“If you found out that your favorite non-Naija gospel artiste charges $100k USD to sing songs of praise and worship, would they appear less spiritual to you?” she wrote on Facebook.

She further criticized pastors who hesitate to pay local gospel artists but readily offer significant sums to foreign performers. “Would your view of the ‘pulpit person’ change?” she asked.

George also challenged the financial transparency of church leaders, questioning whether their ministries could survive without tithes and offerings.

“A Gospel artiste is indeed a professional. A professional artiste. Is there such a thing as a professional pastor?” she wrote, adding, “Dear ‘pastor’, what’s your source of livelihood exactly? If we stop the tithes and offerings, will that ministry also retire? I can’t stand either bullies or hypocrisy!”

Her remarks have sparked discussions on social media, with many weighing in on the treatment of gospel artists and financial practices within churches.

Asake Dumps Olamide’s YBNL, Floats Own Label

by Folarin Kehinde February 12, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has officially parted ways with YBNL Nation owned by popular rapper Olamide Gbenga Adedeji.

Asake made the announcement with the release of his latest single, “Why Love”, under his own label, Giran Republic.

This move confirms that the talented singer has joined the growing list of artists who have parted ways with their labels to pursue solo endeavours.

Asake’s departure from YBNL Nation comes as no surprise, given the rumours of a rift between him and Olamide that had been circulating in the music industry. However, Asake had seemingly put the rumours to rest with his previous single, “Military”, which paid homage to Olamide.

Asake signed with YBNL Nation in February 2022. He is currently signed under a distribution deal with Empire which took effect from July 2022.

CAF Snubs Super Eaglets in Final U-17 AFCON Slot

by Nelson Ugwuagbo February 7, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Nigeria’s hopes of featuring at the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco have been dashed after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) finalized its qualification slots, omitting the Golden Eaglets.

The tournament, scheduled for March 30 to April 19, 2025, will serve as a qualifier for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar later that year, a competition Nigeria has won five times.

Despite finishing third at the 2023 WAFU B U-17 Championship in Ghana, the Golden Eaglets failed to secure qualification, with Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast claiming the two automatic spots from the region.

CAF has now allotted four additional slots to The Gambia (third place in WAFU Zone A), Tunisia, and two teams from the CECAFA and COSAFA regions. The final two places for the expanded 16-team tournament will be determined by the top two teams from the UNIFFAC regional qualifiers, set to be held in Cameroon from February 16 to 28. Competing for those spots are Cameroon, Gabon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Congo.

With no place in the expanded tournament, the Golden Eaglets will miss back-to-back FIFA U-17 World Cups, having also failed to qualify for the 2023 edition in Indonesia after finishing outside the top four at the U-17 AFCON in Algeria.

Last week, CAF confirmed the expansion of the U-17 AFCON following FIFA’s decision to increase Africa’s U-17 World Cup slots to 10 teams for the 2025 tournament in Qatar. However, despite the global competition’s expansion to 48 teams, CAF’s qualification adjustments did not include Nigeria, dealing a significant blow to the country’s age-grade football.

I can’t sing new Nigerian Anthem – Iwobi

by Folarin Kehinde February 7, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Fulham and Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi has admitted that he is yet to learn the reintroduced Nigerian national anthem “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”

The Nigeria international disclosed this in a recent episode of the ‘Is This Seat Taken?’ podcast hosted by Nollywood actress, Chinasa Anukam.

He revealed that he closes his eyes and place his hand on his chest during recitation of the new national anthem before kickoff of international matches.

The host asked, “Have you learnt the new national anthem?”

Iwobi replied, “No. When it comes on, I literally stand there and close my eyes.”

The newly re-adopted anthem “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” was written by Lillian Jean Williams in 1959 and composed by Frances Berda.

It was replaced by “Arise, O Compatriots” as the national anthem of Nigeria on 1 October 1978 but was reintroduced in May 2024 after President Bola Tinubu’s endorsement.

The reintroduction of the old national anthem sparked debate, with prominent figures like activist Aisha Yesufu vowing not to revert to ‘Nigeria, We Hail Thee’ despite the presidential endorsement.
