“Mustapha said the directive prohibits street hawking, tricycle operations, and generator repair activities around the Post Office and Monday Market areas”.
The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB) has announced a ban on street hawking and other unauthorized activities in Maiduguri metropolis.
The ban, which is in line with the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002, was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the board’s General Manager, Limán Mustapha, in Maiduguri.
Mustapha said the directive prohibits street hawking, tricycle operations, and generator repair activities around the Post Office and Monday Market areas. The ban also extends to activities on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts, as well as the sale of engine oil on road reserves, the dumping of sand or building materials, and the mixing of cement on roads. Additionally, the construction of boreholes along roadsides has been outlawed.
According to the General Manager, individuals and businesses engaged in the banned activities are required to vacate the affected sites immediately.
“The board has no alternative but to arrest and prosecute defaulters in a court of law,” Mustapha stated. “This measure aims to ensure a clean, safe, and organized urban environment in Maiduguri and other parts of the state.”
He further urged residents and business operators to comply with the ban to avoid legal consequences.
