Fubara’s Reinstatement Sealed with Conditions: No 2027 Run, Wike to Control LGs

by Nelson Ugwuagbo June 27, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is set to be reinstated following a resolution brokered by President Bola Tinubu, with the agreement hinging on four key conditions aimed at ending the prolonged political crisis in the state.

The deal was reportedly reached during a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday night, involving Tinubu and principal actors in the Rivers political conflict.

According to sources familiar with the development, Fubara’s return to office will be on the condition that he completes his current four-year term but agrees not to seek re-election in 2027.

As part of the agreement, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, will have the authority to nominate chairpersons for all 23 local government councils in the state.

In addition, Governor Fubara is expected to settle all outstanding allowances and entitlements owed to the 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike, who were previously suspended from the state House of Assembly.

The lawmakers, in turn, have agreed not to initiate any impeachment proceedings against the governor once reinstated.

TRANSFER: Three Clubs Fight For Super Eagle Star, Frank Onyeka

by Nelson Ugwuagbo June 27, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka is reportedly on the radar of Burnley, VfB Stuttgart, and Fiorentina as uncertainty surrounds his future at Premier League side Brentford.

The 27-year-old recently returned to Brentford following a loan stint with Bundesliga outfit FC Augsburg during the 2023/24 season.

However, with just one year remaining on his contract and the recent departure of Brentford manager Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspur, Onyeka’s future remains unclear.

Speaking recently, Onyeka admitted he is uncertain about where he will be playing next season and is waiting for the club to appoint a new head coach before making any decision regarding his future.

According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, additional clubs have also shown interest in the defensive midfielder, who may be reluctant to sign a contract extension with the Bees.

Wike, Fubara End Political Feud After Tinubu-Led Peace Meeting

by Nelson Ugwuagbo June 27, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday night confirmed that the political crisis between him and Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been resolved.

Wike disclosed this to journalists after a closed-door reconciliation meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, which was brokered by President Bola Tinubu.

According to the FCT Minister, both camps have reached a final agreement to put their differences aside and work in unity.

“We have all agreed to work together with the governor, and the governor also agreed to work together with all of us. We are members of the same political family,” Wike stated.

He acknowledged that the disagreement had persisted for several months but maintained that Thursday’s resolution marked the end of hostilities.

“Yes, just like humans, you have a disagreement, and then you also have a time to settle your disagreement,” he said. “And that has been finally concluded today, and we have come to report to Mr. President that this is what we have agreed. So for me, everything is over.”

Wike also called on political supporters on both sides to remain calm and embrace unity going forward.

“I enjoin everybody who believes to work with us, to also work together with everybody. There’s no more acrimony. There’s nothing to say,” he added.

N210tn Probe: Senate Blasts NNPCL for Absence, Vows Constitutional Action

by Nelson Ugwuagbo June 27, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Nigerian Senate Committee on Public Accounts has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) following the company’s failure to appear before lawmakers probing alleged financial discrepancies amounting to over N210 trillion in its audited financial reports from 2017 to 2023.

Despite being formally summoned, NNPCL officials and external auditors failed to attend Thursday’s session. In contrast, representatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) were present.

Reading a letter dated June 25 from NNPCL’s Chief Financial Officer, Dapo Segun, the committee was informed that the company’s top executives were away on a management retreat. The letter also requested a two-month extension to enable the collation of relevant documents and responses.

“Having carefully reviewed your request, we hereby request your kind consideration to reschedule the engagement for two months from now… Members of the board and senior management team are currently out of the office for a retreat,” the letter stated.

Lawmakers, however, rejected the request, describing it as evasive and unacceptable.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Aliyu Wadada, insisted that NNPCL had already been served 11 specific audit queries and was only expected to provide oral responses.

“For an institution like NNPCL to ask for two months to respond to questions from its own audited records is unacceptable,” Wadada said. “If they fail to show up by July 10, we will invoke our constitutional powers. The Nigerian people deserve answers.”

Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central) stressed that the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Bayo Ojulari, who assumed office on April 2, 2025, must personally appear before the committee at the rescheduled session.

Supporting the stance, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi (Ebonyi North) remarked that the request for more time appeared to be an attempt to evade accountability.

“We will still grant them a fair hearing, but they must appear by July 10,” Nwebonyi said.

Senator Victor Umeh (Anambra Central) issued a stern warning to NNPCL: “If they fail to appear again, Nigerians will know the Senate is not a toothless bulldog.”

President Tinubu Wades Into Osun Local Government Crisis

by Nelson Ugwuagbo June 16, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

There are credible reports from the State House Abuja today that President Bola Tinubu has waded into the leadership and judicial crisis rocking Osun local government with a view to immediately politically resolve the matter.

A top flight source in the know of the matter hinted that the President had called for the file on the Osun local government issue soon after the visit of the Adelekes to his Bourdillon residence.

The President was reported to have expressed displeasure that the full story of the local government crisis was not related to him.

After reviewing the file, the Number One Citizen is reported to have resolved to wait for the outcome of the APC case seeking to relist its appeal against the outstanding judgement sacking the APC Yes /No chairmen.

The ruling of the Court of Appeal dismissing the relisting attempt by the state APC accounts for what the source called the President’s new attention.

According to the source, the President is seeking a middle ground especially as it is now established that the APC chairman were elected in violation of the electoral act, the basis of which the court sacked them originally.

It is however not clear what the middle ground is going to be.

It is also not clear whether the President is going to call a mediating team involving the state government.

“Mr President has waded into the matter. Baba believed all are his children and the matter needs to be brought to a close without further delay”, the source privy to the issue but not authorized to speak publicly hinted at on our news platform.

DJ Cuppy’s Ex-Fiancé Sparks Outrage with Controversial Instagram Comment

by Nelson Ugwuagbo June 16, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Nigerian disc jockey and billionaire heiress Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, was thrust into the spotlight over the weekend following a provocative comment made by her former fiancé, British boxer Ryan Taylor, on Instagram.

The controversy erupted when Taylor posted a Father’s Day tribute on June 15, featuring photos of himself with his daughter and expressing his commitment to “combat racism by having more black children.” A fan’s lighthearted remark that his daughter resembled Cuppy prompted a sharp response from Taylor, igniting a firestorm across Nigerian social media.

In his comment, Taylor wrote, “She wasn’t enough of a woman to even fathom creating such a beautiful creation like mine. Please leave and don’t come back.”

The pointed jab at Cuppy, his ex-fiancée, was widely perceived as disrespectful, drawing immediate backlash from her fans and the broader online community.

The remark referenced their high-profile engagement, which began in November 2022 after a whirlwind romance but ended abruptly in July 2023, marked by the couple unfollowing each other on Instagram.

The billionaire heiress, daughter of Femi Otedola, has remained silent on the matter, choosing not to engage with the controversy.

Vanguard Faces Backlash for Front-Page Focus on Tinubu, Wike Water Project Amid Benue Massacre

by Nelson Ugwuagbo June 16, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Vanguard Newspaper has ignited widespread criticism for its decision to prioritize a front-page story on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike commissioning a water supply project in Abuja, while the gruesome killings in Benue State over the weekend were relegated to lesser coverage.

The attacks, which took place in Daudu and Yelewata communities of Guma Local Government Area, claimed at least 59 lives, with local sources estimating up to 200 deaths, including military and civil defence personnel. The violence, attributed to suspected armed herdsmen, has intensified calls for urgent federal action to address the escalating insecurity in Benue.

The choice of Vanguard’s front-page headline on Monday, June 16, 2025, drew sharp reactions on social media, particularly on X, where users accused the newspaper of downplaying the tragedy to favor political optics. One user, @Winningmindset7, expressed dismay, stating, “Over 200 people killed in Benue, and Vanguard’s front page is about Tinubu and Wike’s water project? This is shameful.” Another, @pereyiii, questioned whether political influence swayed the editorial decision, asking, “Has Tinubu’s APC bought Vanguard’s silence on the Benue massacre?”

The Benue killings, described by witnesses as brutal and systematic, involved homes being torched and entire families slaughtered. President Tinubu responded on Sunday, condemning the “senseless bloodletting” and directing security chiefs to restore peace, as stated by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.

However, the federal government’s response has been criticized as inadequate, with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and civil society groups like HURIWA demanding stronger measures, including declaring a state of emergency in Benue to curb the recurring violence.

Nigerians Slam President Tinubu’s Tone Deaf Reaction To Benue Massacre

by Nelson Ugwuagbo June 16, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Nigerians have unleashed a wave of criticism against President Bola Tinubu following his statement on the brutal massacre of over 200 people in Yelwata, Benue State, on June 13-14, 2025.

The attack, widely blamed on suspected armed herders, targeted mostly internally displaced persons sheltered at a Catholic mission. Across social media and civil society, citizens have slammed the president’s response as cold, tardy, and misguided, particularly for suggesting reconciliation with those many call terrorists.

Tinubu’s statement, issued late on Sunday, June 15, through his media aide Bayo Onanuga, condemned the killings as “inhuman and anti-progress” and instructed security chiefs to restore order in Benue. He also urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to convene “reconciliation meetings and dialogue among the warring parties” to foster peace between farmers, herders, and communities.

But the remarks have sparked outrage, with many pointing out the president’s 48-hour silence after the tragedy, especially when global figures like Pope Leo XIV had already spoken out. The Pope, during his Sunday Angelus on June 15, prayed for the victims, calling the attack a “terrible massacre” and urging “security, justice, and peace” in Nigeria. Amnesty International Nigeria also condemned the killings on June 14, amplifying the issue internationally.

On X, Nigerians expressed frustration over the delay. “Tinubu’s government is the true definition of eye service, rushing to comment on foreign issues for global attention, but mute when Benue people are being slaughtered,” wrote @AdaIgbo00.

The tone of Tinubu’s statement has drawn particular scorn, with critics arguing it lacked compassion for the victims’ families or acknowledgment of the attack’s brutality against defenseless women, children, and displaced persons. “That statement from Tinubu would crush the hearts of Benue people instead of soothing them,” posted @Chiemela.

“Calling it a conflict, talking about reconciliation, people making inflammatory statements, and reprisal? For people murdered in their sleep? I couldn’t believe what I was reading.”

The call for reconciliation has been especially contentious, with many rejecting the idea of dialogue with perpetrators of such violence. “Tinubu may be the most callous, insensitive, incompetent president in the world,” wrote @SamdGreat01.

“200 of your citizens were murdered by terrorists in Benue, and 48 hrs after you’re telling us you have been briefed… You released a statement shifting responsibilities on others.”

Civil society groups have echoed these sentiments. The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria referenced Tinubu’s earlier insensitivity during a Yobe attack, accusing him of prioritizing foreign trips over domestic crises.

Catholic priests in Makurdi Diocese, who have lost over 15 parishes to attacks, called on Tinubu to declare war on the perpetrators rather than advocate for dialogue. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, which previously criticized the government for failing to protect lives, condemned the “utterly barbaric” attacks, accusing federal and state authorities of neglecting their duty.

The contrast with Pope Leo XIV’s swift and heartfelt response has deepened public frustration. The Pope’s remarks, delivered before a global audience at the Vatican, underscored the targeting of rural Christian communities, while Tinubu’s delayed reaction has been seen as evidence of his disconnect. “Even the Pope reacted before our own president,” one X user lamented.

Demands for action are growing louder, with many calling for a state of emergency in Benue to address the escalating violence. The Guardian Nigeria reported, “Even though President Tinubu spoke out on Sunday, people say his words are not enough.”

Critics argue his directive to security chiefs and call for reconciliation meetings sidestep the root causes, including allegations of security forces’ complicity. Catholic priests in Benue have accused the military of inaction, noting attacks near checkpoints.

Bauchi Police Arrest Suspected Cyber Fraudster Known as ‘Snake’ for Online Scams and Identity Theft

by Nelson Ugwuagbo June 13, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected cybercriminal and identity thief, Umar Yau, popularly known as “Snake,” over his alleged involvement in a string of online scams that defrauded multiple victims.

According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakil, the 25-year-old suspect, a resident of Yelwan Makaranta in Bauchi metropolis, was apprehended following a technology-led investigation initiated after a formal complaint by one of the victims.

The case was triggered by a petition from Mrs. Fatimah Faiz Ali Bawahab, an online entrepreneur, who reported that her identity had been stolen. The suspect allegedly created a fake Facebook account using her name and photographs, operating under the username “Amizeebaby Muhd.” Through the fake profile, the suspect advertised fictitious goods and services, defrauding unsuspecting customers who believed they were dealing with Mrs. Bawahab.

Victims reportedly transferred money to various bank accounts provided by the suspect. The scam was often discovered only after the victims contacted the real Mrs. Bawahab for confirmation.

Investigations revealed that the fraudulent activities date back to March 2022, when a victim identified as Nafiu Muhd was deceived into sending money to a First Bank account bearing the name Hansatu Yau. Subsequent complaints in 2023 uncovered a recurring pattern, with several transactions linked to accounts registered under the names Hansatu Yau and Umar Yau.

The police have assured the public that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
