written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Over 150 suspected armed herdsmen have attacked Agojeju-odo in Bagaji-Odoh District of Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing four persons.

The lawmaker representing Omala State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Umar Yahaya disclosed this on Wednesday in Lokoja shortly after submitting a report on the attack to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo.

Yahaya, who condemned the incident, described the recent attack in his constituency as one too many.

According to the lawmaker, “At about 3:30 pm on Tuesday, the 30th of January 2024, the peaceful community of Agojeju-odo in Bagaji-Odoh District of Omala LGA was attacked by Fulani herdsmen numbering over 150.

“The militant herdsmen took the village by surprise and were shooting sporadically as they invaded the village in a broad daylight through the eastern part of the town.

“During the attack, a sick woman who was on admission in a local private clinic (St. Peter Clinic) was slaughtered. Two men namely: Mr. Attai John Idagboyi and one Mr. Daniel Shuaibu were also gruesomely murdered.

“The remains of a man was also found butchered in the bush, bringing the total number of the dead to four. That’s one woman and three men.

“They came in through Bagana in Omala LGA which borders the Agatu area of Benue and Umasha community in Nasarawa States.

“The Bagana community has been under attack for a long period now and some of our people have not been able to return home for many years now due to the incessant attacks by these Fulani herdsmen militants.”

He requested the governor’s support in directing the State Commissioner of Police and other heads of Security Agencies to be deployed to provide armed security personnel to the affected area.

Continuing, Yahaya said, “The presence of military or armed personnel will scare the militants away pending further long term measures to prevent reoccurrence or possible solutions.”

He also appealed to the governor to direct the State Emergency Agency to provide relief materials to the victims in Bagana and Agojeju-Odo.

Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin on Monday addressed allegations that she stole gold from a market in Lagos Island, sparking controversy.

A video circulating on social media shows her sitting in a store, attempting to defend herself.

In the video, which is now viral, Lizzy, who wore a facemask, tried to stop the recording.

In the clip, the embarrassed actress tried to stop the person making the video from capturing her face and what was happening.

In the video, Lizzy moved from her seat to a place where her face was not visible. A woman’s voice was heard in the background, saying Anjorin didn’t steal. Meanwhile, people in the store watched the events unfold as the shop owner tried to chase some of the onlookers out.

Lizzy Anjorin, who denied stealing gold as alleged in the popular video, said the incident is about a purported failed transfer of N91,000 that she paid to an accessory seller on Tom Jones in the Idumota area of Lagos.

She alleged that she was set up just like filmmaker Olajide Kareem, alias Seun Egbegbe.

She alleged that some months ago she had gone to the market to buy accessories for N91,000 and asked her husband to forward the money to a guy who sold the accessories to her.

Lizzy Anjorin explained that she went to the same market today, only to be told that the transfer she made on the aforesaid day was considered fraudulent.

Court nullifies N21.5 billion money laundering charge against former Chief of Air Staff Amosu and others

by Nelson Ugwuagbo February 6, 2024
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday nullified a criminal charge preferred against a former Chief of Air Staff, Adesola Amosu, and two others over alleged N21.5 billion money laundering.

LeadingReporters gathered that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had re-arraigned the defendants on an amended 13-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N21.5 billion.

Justice Aneke on Tuesday upheld a preliminary objection by the defence counsel challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the case on the grounds that the defendants were serving officers of the military at the time.

It had argued that the defendants were, therefore, only subject to trial by a court martial, since they were still officers during the period.

EFCC Arrests General Overseer Over Alleged N1.3bn Fraud

by Nelson Ugwuagbo February 5, 2024
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested the General Overseer of Faith On The Rock Ministry International,  Theophilus Ebonyi, over allegations of defrauding church members and other Nigerians.

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, who made this known in a statement on Monday in Abuja, said the pastor was arrested for allegedly using fake grants from the Ford Foundation to the tune of N1,319,040,274.31.

The statement read, “Ebonyi was arrested for defrauding his victims, comprising non-governmental organisations and individuals by advertising an intervention project through his NGO, Theobarth Global Foundation, claiming that the Ford Foundation was offering a grant of $20 billion to assist the less-privileged in the society.

“He allegedly beguiled his victims to subscribe as beneficiaries of the phoney grant by asking them to pay for registration forms and clusters.

“Through this arrangement, Ebonyi allegedly raked in N1,391,040, 274.31.

“His subscribers are innocent and unsuspecting Nigerians and NGOs across the country.”

Oyewale said investigations by the EFCC showed that the Ford Foundation had no arrangement, grant, relationship, or business with the general overseer.

“The Foundation pointedly disclaimed him and his NGO, stressing that it had no link whatsoever with them.

“The commission has also traced five properties he acquired as proceeds of his criminal dealings.

“Ebonyi is still reportedly reaching his subscribers on some social media platforms to market his spurious grant from Ford Foundation.

“He would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” he said.
