Oyedepo disclosed this during the university’s 19th convocation, Instead he emphasized that the success stories and personal growth of the students have been his true rewards.

The convocation, held to confer First and Higher Degrees and present prizes, saw a total of 1,607 students graduate, including 339 first-class honors, 762 second-class upper honors, 330 second-class lower honors, 25 third-class, and 151 from postgraduate programs.

Oyedepo stressed that his motivation was never about personal gain but about contributing meaningfully to society.

“You are created to be a contributor. Find a place to contribute. You cannot be a contributor and be a failure. You will be part of the solution and not those who are problems,” he asserted.

In a hopeful message about the future of Nigeria, Oyedepo encouraged students to remain committed to God’s plan, emphasizing the importance of being in the center of that purpose.

“We will see a brand new Nigeria. Don’t jump the fence. Your star is where you belong. A commitment to be in the center of God’s plan is very essential,” he noted.

BREAKING: APC suspends minister of state for petroleum, Heineken Lokpobiri

by Folarin Kehinde October 11, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and its 2019 Bayelsa governorship candidate, David Lyon, over alleged anti-party activities.

In addition to Lokpobiri and Lyon, several key figures, including Commissioner for Power Kharim Kumoko, Commissioner for Lands and Survey Peres Biewari, former APC state chairman Jothan Amos, NEC ex-officio member Godbless Diriwari, and Southern Ijaw APC Youth Leader Sabi Morgan, were also suspended.

The suspensions followed a disciplinary review conducted by the party’s leadership in Bayelsa State.

Announcing the decision in Yenagoa, Mitin Eniekenemi Senator, APC Chairman for Ekeremor Local Government Area, accused Lokpobiri of leading factions and working with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after his unsuccessful bid for the APC governorship ticket in 2019.

He alleged that Lokpobiri and his supporters actively supported Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri and the PDP in the 2023 election, receiving appointments and contracts as rewards.

His words, “In the 2023 gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State, he led a group of disgruntled party members to openly support and work for Gov. Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party and was compensated by the PDP-led government of Bayelsa State.

“His personal aide, Kharim Kumoko, was nominated by the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri and appointed as the current Commissioner for Power in Bayelsa State.

It is on record that since the day he was appointed as minister, he has been fighting the party in Bayelsa State and has refused to make peace despite all entreaties.”

Similarly, the APC Southern Ijaw LGA leadership, led by Ebikazi Gbefa, announced the suspension of David Lyon and seven others for undermining APC’s National Assembly candidates and conspiring with the PDP in the 2023 governorship race.

Gbefa said “The same set of stakeholders and their supporters openly worked against our National Assembly candidates” pointing out that they also worked for Diri and the PDP in the 2023 governorship election in Bayelsa State.

“Some of them were compensated with contracts and appointments. For example, Perepuighe Biewari who was Chief David Lyon’s Personal Assistant, was nominated by Chief David Lyon and appointed as the current Commissioner for Lands and Survey in the Gov. Douye Diri administration in Bayelsa State.

“As we strive to rebuild the party ahead of 2027, it is our resolve to strengthen the party and build confidence in party grassroots members who believe in and have sacrificed remarkably to the party in the state.”

“Nigeria currently has 320 unmanned border routes” – Ex-immigration boss alerts FG

by Folarin Kehinde October 11, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Retired Assistant Comptroller-General of Immigration, Sunday Fagbamigbe, has raised alarm over Nigeria’s security vulnerability, revealing that the country has over 320 unmanned illegal border routes.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta on Friday, Mr Fagbamigbe warned that these porous borders are fueling insecurity by allowing the proliferation of arms, trafficking in illicit drugs, human trafficking, and the dumping of unwholesome goods.

He urged the Federal Government to strengthen border security by investing in advanced technology such as electronic sensors, night vision scopes, drones, and artificial intelligence to enhance surveillance and detect illegal entries more effectively.

According to Fagbamigbe, modern surveillance systems, which have proven successful in Western countries, are far superior to relying solely on human personnel.

He also called for collaboration with border communities to create awareness and improve border management.

“We have to take seriously border management security and work with border communities.

“We must create a sense of awareness and collaboration,” Mr Fagbamigbe said.

BREAKING: Court Bars PDP NEC, BoT From Sacking Damagun As Acting National Chair

by Folarin Kehinde October 11, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from removing Umar Damagum as the Acting National Chairman of the party.

The court ordered that no other person must be recognised as PDP national chairman other than Damagum until the national convention of the party scheduled for December next year.

Justice Lifu issued the restraining order against the PDP NEC, BoT, and others while delivering judgment in a suit instituted against them by Senator Umar El-Gash Maina.

The judge held that in line with Articles 42, 47, and 67 of PDP, it is only at the national convention of the party that national officers can be elected.

In the suit, Justice Lifu said that PDP members are bound by the constitution of the party and as such must always act in line with the provisions and obedience to the party’s law.

The plaintiff, who claimed to be chairman of PDP in Yobe State had instituted the suit against PDP and eight others alleging that some stakeholders of the party have been holding clandestine meetings to forcefully remove Damagum from office in gross violation of the party’s constitution.

He said that a former deputy governor of Kogi State, Phillip Salawu, was being pushed forward as a replacement for Damagun by the stakeholders.

Maina claimed that upon becoming aware of the plan, two separate letters complaining against the clandestine meetings were delivered to the national secretary of the party, Samuel Anyanwu, and that despite the acknowledgment of the two letters, the national secretary and BoT members have never deemed it fit to act on the letters and their claims.

In the suit instituted on his behalf by Joshua Musa who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, the plaintiff therefore prayed the court to invoke articles 45, 47, and 67 of the PDP Constitution to stop the move to replace Damagum as the acting national chairman.

The plaintiff specifically asked the court to declare that the national chairmanship of the PDP is rotated between the north and south regions and not through any other procedure not enshrined in the PDP’s Constitution.

In his judgment after perusing the PDP’s Constitution and exhibits, Justice Lifu agreed with the plaintiff that Damagum can only be replaced at the national convention of PDP or through an order of a court.

Justice Lifu also held that any attempt to truncate the un-exhausted four-year tenure of the northern region without the national convention of the party would amount to an affront to the Constitution of the PDP.

Fuel Hike: Passengers resort to trekking in Abuja as commercial drivers lament low patronage

by Folarin Kehinde October 11, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Commercial drivers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have lamented low patronage as commuters resort to trekking long distances following an increase in transport fares occasioned by hikes in petrol price.

Leading reporters gathered that some public parks in the city centre including the popular Jabi Motor Park, Utako and Area 1 Motor Park, observed low turnout of passengers.

Daily Trust reports that in the FCT, a litre of petrol sells for between N1,050 and N1,100, resulting in the hike of transport fares.

A motorist, John Ayuba, said the government should be blamed for the situation in the country.

He said, “This is not what we bargain for. This government promised us that they are going to address all the challenges we witnessed from the past administration, but it is unfortunate, that we are in the same situation.

“Unlike before, when you come here, you will see passengers boarding cars to travel to their various destinations, including those travelling outside the city. But today, the situation is bad.

“Some people only come here to make enquiries and go, because they are looking for where the fare is cheap.”

Another motorist, who pleaded anonymity, attributed the situation to increase in the pump price which he said had resulted in slight adjustments in the transport fares.

He called on the federal government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to come out with a workable solution to address the issue in the interest of the people.

“As you can see now, due to this increment, many people prefer to trek half of their journey before boarding cabs. Some are begging us to cut down the fare, which is not our fault. Honestly I don’t know where we are heading to in this country.”

Another resident, William Emmanuel, said he decided to trek some distance as part of the strategies to cut down the transport cost.
