France Government about to collapse as Marie le Pen reportedly take charge

by Folarin Kehinde December 1, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

France is reportedly in utter turmoil and it seems the person in control is Marie le Pen, very much in control in a country where you see now in a country where 53% of the public want prime minister michel Barnier’s government to fall.

His proposed budget is been debated and discussed and 67% of the country has oppossed the budget which consist of 60 billion euros in tax hikes and spending cuts and france is in such a situation where citizens are been asked to work for free.

Marie le pen is now essentially the King Maker in terms of french politics. She and her party would decide if this Barnier government collapses or survives. As you can see now, the screws are been turned big time on Barnier with Le Pen saying that he has until this monday, demand concessions in return for her party’s support. Barniers options are running out with the french socialist rejecting any prospects of backing his budget.

Barnier now has to turn and rely on Le Pen’s support to pass the budget and for his government to survive. But how likely is that as some of Le Pen’s recent comment is that the budget is bad, unjust and violent. Former French interior minister, Gerald Darmanian has asked the prime minister to find common ground with the National Rally Party and it’s 11 million voters.

So that is the situation now, we would see if this budget and current french government survives based on the decision of Marie Le Pen.

JUST IN: NNPCL reduces petrol price to N1030/l for marketers

by Folarin Kehinde November 29, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has revealed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced its price for the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) petrol to marketers from N1,045 per litre to N1,030 per litre.

The association’s National President, Dr. Billy Harry disclosed this at its strategic meeting and award presentation in Abuja yesterday.

He said: “Today, NNPCL has reduced their price to 1,030 Naira”

He added that the marketers are still pressing the state-owned firm to further drag down the price.

“We are still hoping and pushing that it will still come down low,” he said.

Recalled that NNPCL major competitor, Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals sells the product at N970 per litre to the marketers with a ceiling of a minimum of two million litres while NNPCL has not limited its volume to the marketers.

Explaining the implication, Harry said the turn over rate from buying from NNPCL will be higher despite its higher rate.

His words, “Because most of our members are going to be struggling to get 50 million Naira, or thereabout, or even N60 million to buy products.

“Now, that is not what is easily affordable. So, we, as retail outlet owners, you can see why we are very close to NNPC.

“Because we can go there and buy one product, sell, quickly turn it around, and then come back. But then, if we have to buy 2 million liters, we must go together.”

He disclosed that NNPCL has opened its their portal for marketers to start lifting products since the day on Wednesday.

According to him, the competition emanating from the free market operation will certainly bring down petrol prices further.

He said “And as I speak to you, they (NNPCL) are already programming for us on the current price.”

He also disclosed that owing to the need to patronize domestic refineries, the association has suspended its plan to import the products.

Harry said, “So, we are not going to start importing if there is product available. So, wherever is best, we are not going to be looking for dollars to start importing when we can get a Naira-dominated transaction from Dangote, from Port Harcourt Refinery, from Warri Refinery, from all the refineries in Nigeria.”

‘Nigeria Is Open For Business,’ Tinubu Woos French Investors

by Folarin Kehinde November 28, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

President Bola Tinubu has told French investors that the country is open for business, saying his government is creating an enabling environment for them to thrive.

Tinubu said this on Thursday during a joint briefing with the French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace.

“We’ve been working on stabilizing the security system in Nigeria and we are getting closer and closer,” Tinubu said. “We are doing better now in the area of security. I can assure all the investors that Nigeria is open for business.”

“We assure you of a free market economy; easy in, easy out; no hindrance,” Tinubu said.

The Nigerian president underscored his country’s youth who are skilled, educated, and ready to be trained as part of the reasons French investors should look towards the West African nation.

“We have a vibrant youth population that is well educated, skilled, and ready to be trained for the development of our economy,” Tinubu who is on a three-day visit to France told the gathering.

“This, I will emphasize, is why we need the French experts and investors to do more in this area to help develop our youth population.”

He said Nigeria is working on diversifying its economy away from fossil fuels and believes France can play a key role in that move.

“We have the potential to diversify our economy from fossil fuels,” he said.

PH Refinery: NNPCL loaded old stock, not fresh products – Host community secretary

by Folarin Kehinde November 28, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Secretary of the Alesa community stakeholders, Timothy Mgbere, has alleged that the petroleum products loaded from the newly rehabilitated Port-Harcourt Refinery were not freshly refined but products left in the storage tank of the facility in the last three years.

He also alleged that the refinery only loaded six trucks on Tuesday despite stating that 200 trucks would be picked up from the refinery daily.

Mgbere made these revelations during his appearance as a guest on Arise TV, which was monitored by our correspondent on Thursday.

Alesa, one of the 10 major communities in Eleme, Rivers State, is the host community of the Port-Harcourt Refinery.

On Tuesday, the 60,000-capacity Port-Harcourt Refinery resumed operations after years of inactivity, drawing initial praise from Nigerians and industry stakeholders.

The NNPC said the newly rehabilitated complex of the old Port Harcourt refinery, which had been revamped and upgraded with modern equipment, is operating at a refining capacity of 70 per cent of its installed capacity.

NNPC added that diesel and Pour Fuel Oil would be the highest output from the refinery, with a daily capacity of 1.5 million litres and 2.1 million litres, respectively.

This is followed by a daily output of Straight-Run Gasoline (Naphtha) blended into 1.4 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), 900,000 litres of kerosene, and low-pour fuel oil of 2.1 million litres.

It was stated that about 200 trucks of petrol would be released into the Nigerian market daily.

But speaking during the interview, the secretary described the ceremony held as a “party”, stressing that the full units of the old complex are not functional.

He said, ” The Port Harcourt refinery, and by extension, the Port Harcourt depot, happens to be the mainstay of the Alesa community economy, the economic activities emanating from the operations of these depots means a lot to us as a community people, but as it were, now, I don’t think it’s a cause for celebration yet, because what we are having in the media space is different from what we have on the ground.

“I can tell you on authority as a community person, that what happened on Tuesday was just a mere show at the Port Harcourt depot,

“A mere show in the sense that the Port Harcourt refinery, we call it area five, that is the old refinery, is merely in skeletal operation.

“When I say skeletal, I mean that some units of the refinery were recently brought up and are running, but not the entire unit of the old refinery is functional, as we speak.

“I will give them the credit that at least they have started something, but not to say, according to the Head of Corporate Communication of the NNPC limited, Femi Soneye, like it is in the media that they are already producing 1.4m barrels per day. That’s not the case. That’s not true.

“It’s a very big, I don’t want to use the word lie, but as an agency that is holding the oil industry on trust for Nigerians, they shouldn’t put out some of this information that is not true.”

He added, The true picture of what happened on Tuesday is that the NNPC has been under pressure to televise to Nigerians that everything is okay and then that the old refinery has started functioning.

“I can tell you that the GMD, or the CEO of the refinery, was in Port Harcourt since Monday; the other MDs were also in Port Harcourt. The MD of Port Harcourt refinery and those heading the operations department didn’t sleep through the night of Monday to Tuesday because of this whole event they had on Tuesday.

“What is the true picture? The Old Port Harcourt refinery is built with its utilities, different from the new complex. The tank farm that is servicing the Old Port Harcourt refinery has a different loading gantry at the depot.’

He added that NNPCL only dispatched six trucks on Tuesday, relying solely on the existing stock at the Port Harcourt Refinery.

He further stressed that the refinery is not producing 1.4m barrels of litres of petrol per day and urged the NNPCL to stop putting out false information to deceive Nigerians.

Continuing, he said, “The party they had on Tuesday was held at the new loading gantry that is directly connected to the new refinery. And so, how does that work? It is impossible.

“They went there because the storage facility for the old refinery had some stock, old stock that has been there for over three years.

“And so what they had, they released that stock, and then loaded six trucks and then televised it to Nigerians that it is the production from the old refinery. That’s not true.

“And so I like Nigerians to know the truth, but they don’t need to believe me, because Nigerians, no matter how you paint the true pictures to them, they get sentimental. They get tribal. They want to whip some sentiment and all that the product that was loaded. But let it be on record that it was only six trucks that they used to calibrate the new loading gantry. The product was not a new refined product from the old refinery.”

‘I’m not afraid of death’ Bishop TD Jakes addresses recent health emergency

by Folarin Kehinde November 28, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Bishop TD Jakes has assured his followers that he is “not afraid to die” as he addressed the public for the first time following a recent health emergency.

In a heartfelt video shared Wednesday evening, Bishop TD Jakes expressed gratitude to his medical team and those who prayed for him after he fell ill during Sunday services at his church, The Potter’s House, in Dallas.

Seated in a wheelchair in what appeared to be a hospital setting, the renowned megachurch leader thanked God for sparing his life, clarifying that his condition was not a stroke but could have been fatal without divine intervention.

“I’m so grateful. So grateful to y’all,” Jakes said emotionally, gesturing toward medical staff in blue scrubs.

“All the people who prayed. All the people who texted. All the people who had prayer vigils. All the people who were concerned and sent love and notes. Just grateful. Thank you,” he added.

In a powerful moment, Bishop TD Jakes continued, “I’m not afraid to die. I don’t want to hurt my kids and the people who love me and my church that needs me. The world who called me and the God who sent me. Sometimes you just got to be grateful.”

The 67-year-old pastor had been delivering a sermon when he suddenly sat down and began trembling.

Church members quickly gathered around him, and the live broadcast of the service was abruptly stopped.

The Potter’s House later released a statement on social media, saying, “During today’s service, Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hourlong message. Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals.

The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support from the community.”

As for his recovery, Jakes indicated he is focusing on rest and reflection. “My job is to recuperate and reflect on God’s protection,” he said in his Instagram statement. “I owe it to my amazing family and church members to rest and ruminate as He restores me towards His service.”

Yahaya, who works with the Gombe Media Corporation (GMC), was the immediate National Deputy President of the NUJ and succeeds Chris Isiguzo as the president of the association.

Also, Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde, a Deputy Director at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), also emerged unopposed as the Deputy National President.

All other positions were also returned unopposed.
In his acceptance speech, Yahya pledged to advance the interests and welfare of NUJ members, defend press freedom, and uphold high journalistic standards.

“My administration will focus on capacity-building initiatives, including workshops, training, and mentorship programs to enhance our members’ skills,” he stated.

The new NUJ president also highlighted plans to leverage technology and innovation to adapt to the evolving media landscape and foster stronger networks among journalists and media organisations.

18 years after FG finally set to conduct census, reveals date

by Folarin Kehinde November 28, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Nasir Isa Kwarra, has disclosed that Nigeria’s belated census will hold in 2025.

Kwarra made the revelation at the 2024 Anniversary on the Nairobi Summit on International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) on Thursday in Abuja.

Recall that despite the United Nations recommending Population census to be hold in countries every 10 years, Nigeria last conducted its own in 2006, making the country 18 years without accurate figure of its citizens.

While the country was supposed to hold the census in 2023, the exercise was botched after missing two dates it was scheduled under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The administration had predicated the cancellation on wanting the incoming administration that won the 2023 elections to own the census exercise.

But Kwarra in his speech noted that major setback Nigeria faces is the delay in conducting a population and housing census which is fundamental for informed decision-making.

He said the delay in conducting the census, particularly in the face of logistical and financial constraints, had hindered efforts to assess the full scope of population needs and allocate resources effectively, especially in rural and underserved areas.

“This gap in accurate population data poses challenges in tailoring reproductive health services and interventions to specific demographic groups, ultimately undermining progress toward reducing maternal mortality and improving access to family planning.

“We are gathered in the spirit of a shared commitment to progress, inclusivity, and the empowerment of individuals, particularly women and young people. Our focus is on advancing sexual and reproductive health, eliminating gender-based violence (GBV), and promoting equal opportunities for everyone in our nation.

“We must continue our march to address these challenges head-on. For many in our communities—particularly women, girls, and young people—sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) remain out of reach. This is not just a health issue; it is also an issue of social and economic justice. When individuals are denied the ability to make choices about their health and lives, it limits their potential, reduces opportunities, and impacts society as a whole.”

On her part, the founder of wellbeing Foundation Africa, Toying Saraki, expressed commitment to a continuous programme of advocacy and policy on a global and subnational scale to accelerate progress towards the ICPD agenda and mobilise private, philanthropic and multi-sector stakeholders towards the goal.
