FG to establish centre to check Immigration, document fraud

by Folarin Kehinde April 30, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Federal Government on Tuesday said it will soon establish a centralized verification centre to check cases of immigration and document fraud.

Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo disclosed this in Abuja when he received the United Kingdom UK Minister of State for Home Affairs, David Hanson.

He said; “One of the key issues we also realized with border control is what we call immigration and document fraud. It is very key and we realized that one of the reasons why this is quite on the rise is because there is no centralized pool of authentication and verification of documents in real time.

“So today, if people submit 20 documents, you might need to go to 20 issuing agencies to verify 20 documents belonging to one person. So, if you have 1,000 people per day, you might need to look for 100,000 verification and authentication systems. That breeds inefficiency. And for us, we sincerely believe, and I will not shy away from this fact, and I will say this very clearly, that the unfortunate situation is that the bad reputation of a few is being magnified, is being amplified at the expense of the great reputation of the majority of Nigerians. But we are not blaming anybody for that. We are taking responsibility.

“Nigerians have a responsibility, and as such, as a country,we have decided to be able to create a real-time pool where authentication and verification of all documents, may it be bank statement, may it be passport, may it be birth certificate, may it be any document, just to one centre, where verification will happen.

So we are already working on that because we care about our image, and we care about our relationship and we want to be able to give people the opportunity to know what is right at any time that they wish to know it. It is not just about integration. It also affects investors. If somebody wants to invest in Nigeria, he will want to know who he is dealing with. As a government, we are trying to be more proactive than reactive, and we don’t want to judge our performance in terms of fraud by virtue of recoveries or convictions, but rather by the number of crimes or frauds that we prevented from happening. We want our performance to be based on our preventive measures and not just on our reactive measures. So we are also working on that”, he added.

Earlier, Hanson who led a delegation from the UK Home Office, the National Crime Agency and the UK High Commission in Nigeria, said both countries have to improve performance on criminal justice outcomes.

“There is a great common agenda that we can share and I am particularly keen to look at how we are working together closely. My visit this week will also look at the new Joint Centre that you are undertaking. I will meet with other colleagues in government departments.

“I think it is really important and I know that you visited recently and met with the Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper and that there is a willingness and a hope that we can further engage and that you want to organize regional conferences along the lines that we have been trying to do in the United Kingdom to raise some of these criminal justice issues within your sphere of influence here in Nigeria and beyond”, he added.

BREAKING: King Sunny Ade ‘Kidnapped’

by Folarin Kehinde April 28, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Legendary Juju singer, King Sunny Ade, has reportedly been kidnapped, according to his daughter, Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye.

On April 28, 2025, a media personality identified as @Akanbitheduke on Instagram took to his page to amplify King Sunny Ade’s daughter’s cries for help about her father’s safety. In a lengthy post, he explained how he had personally tried to contact the 78-year-old musician before a friend reached out to him on the daughter’s behalf over concerns about King Sunny Ade.

According to Akanbi, all efforts of KSA’s close allies to reach him had proved abortive. He also added that King Sunny Ade’s daughter, Damilola, also claimed that her dad had been unreachable for a while and that his manager, named Dayo, who is also KSA’s stepbrother and his other siblings, had abducted the singer.

Damilola claimed that these people had been making King Sunny Ade sign up for many gigs without actually performing, thereby ruining his image. She also added that they were the ones in charge of his funds at the expense of the singer’s biological children.

It was also reported that what made King Sunny Ade’s daughter more worried was the last time she spoke to him. She claimed that her father sounded very distressed, and the phone was taken away from him.

Akanbi wrote in part: “What further created serious worry for Damilola, according to her, was that the last time she spoke to KSA, he sounded distressed, and the phone was quickly taken away from him. Ever since, he has not been reachable. Although Damilola had since embarked on a personal rigorous campaign for her father, it seemed like her voice had been drowned by the fact that no one reckoned with her.”

Jandor Visits TPI, Lauds Tinubu, Ganduje Leadership Quality

by Folarin Kehinde April 28, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Director General DG of The Progressive Institute, TPI Lanre Adebayo PhD and his last Friday visitor, Mr. Abdulazees Adediran, former Lagos State governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), both say younger Nigerians have hope with the leadership quality of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The duo affirm Tinubu’s commitment to passing the leadership baton of Nigeria to the next generation. “I’m in APC to support President Tinubu achieve this. Adebayo, a Leadership and Governance experts and the Lagos Politician both agreed with the press.

Famously known as “Jandor,” the famous Abuja based business man and his host in TPI made the commendation during a Adediran’s visit to the party’s training and think-tank institution, The Progressive Institute (TPI) in Abuja on Friday.

Accompanied to TPI with his business partner, Malam Ahmed Buhari, Adu Oyinlade and Media Adviser, Pastor Gbenga Ogunleye, Adediran, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), noted that his meeting with Mr. President gives him more hope about Nigeria.

“Reflecting on my meeting with President Tinubu prior to my defection, where the President explicitly expressed his readiness to ensure a smooth transition of leadership to the next generation”. I’m proud to be part of this transitional moment”, he said.

Adediran urged the APC leadership and its members to support the President’s vision, highlighting that Tinubu’s leadership recruitment strategy is crucial for the successful generational transition.

“There is nothing all of us that are coming behind him have to do now than to see how we can support him, to ensure a very smooth transition of him passing the baton to the next generation.”

Expressing delight in returning to the governing party, Adediran said APC remains the only stable party in the country.

According to him,”Our decision to come back to the family is really not far-fetched, because if you look at all the political parties in Nigeria today, the only one with a semblance of stability, is the APC.”

He commended the initiative of the Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led National Working Committee (NWC) for establishing the Progressive Institute. Describing it as a “citadel for leadership recruitment,”

Jandor noted that the establishment of the institute is speaking to the passing on of the baton and leadership recruitment.

He argued that the major problem we have in Nigeria today is not the structure of our economy, it’s a leadership problem.

If we see somebody getting it right, it’s the President today. You just don’t want to be a President. You want to see how we can have structure that will speak to recruiting leadership.”

Earlier the Director-General of the institute, Dr. Adebayo disclosed of plans by the institute to evolve a political ideology for the ruling party and to assist the party in leadership recruitment.

He also said the institute is also to undertake research on public policies, on political party management, and of course on governance.

Adebayo, who describes his visitor as a brilliant brand, hailed his decision to join the ruling party, noting that APC means well for Nigeria.

T.D. Jakes steps aside, hands over church leadership to daughter, son-in-law

by Folarin Kehinde April 28, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Bishop T.D. Jakes on Sunday, handed over leadership of The Potter’s House congregation to his daughter and son-in-law.

Jakes announced the decision months after he suffered a massive heart attack while preaching at the church.

The church said this move had been years in the making but it came just months after a near-tragedy.

“You have been faithful to God, and you have been faithful to me. “And I’m so grateful,” he told the congregation during Sunday morning’s service at The Potter’s House.

Holding back tears, Jakes confirmed that his daughter and son-in-law, pastors Sarah Jakes Roberts and Toure Roberts, will take over in July.

“I’m grateful, I’m honored, as your daughter,” Sarah Jakes Roberts said.

“I’m so happy you’re going to get some rest.”

T.D. Jakes, who founded The Potter’s House in 1996, admitted that getting hospitalized after suffering a massive heart attack on stage, factored into the decision.

“I cannot afford, especially after November, to risk something happening to me and you be sheep without a shepherd,” he added.

2027: Confusion hits APC over Gov Idris’s rumoured plans to join Atiku’s coalition

by Folarin Kehinde April 28, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

There is currently growing confusion within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State following widespread rumours that Governor Nasiru Idris may be planning to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The speculation was fueled by a viral report which named Idris among five serving APC governors who are said to be considering joining forces with the 2023 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in a bid to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

However, despite the report going viral on social media, the state government has remained silent on the issue for over 48 hours, fueling speculation that there might be some truth in the rumours.

The prolonged silence has intensified anxiety among party members and residents, who are now left to wonder about the political future of the governor and the state’s political dynamics.

DAILY POST observed that despite being in the opposition, the PDP has a strong presence in Kebbi State.

The three senators representing the state in the National Assembly – Adamu Aliero (North), Yahaya Abdullahi (Central) and Garba Musa Maidoki (South) – are all members of the PDP.

Amid growing uncertainty surrounding Governor Nasiru Idris’ future in the APC, former Governor Adamu Aliero continues to wield significant influence in Kebbi State politics.

Although Aliero switched to the opposition PDP, his political experience remains undeniable, with many viewing him as a key decider in the state’s electoral outcomes.

This strong representation has given the opposition party a strong foothold in Kebbi.

In the 2023 gubernatorial election, Governor Idris of the APC won by a narrow margin, securing just 52% of the votes to defeat his main rival, retired Army General Aminu Bande of the PDP.

The rumours of Governor Idris’s defection have triggered an internal crisis within the APC, with several party members expressing concern over the future direction of the party.

In particular, some top members have been reported to be in talks with opposition parties, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in anticipation of a possible defection by the governor.

These have led to widespread uncertainty among APC members, especially in the governor’s ward, Nassarawa II, where there is growing confusion over what lies ahead.

To quell the growing unrest, the Chairman of the APC in Kebbi State, Muhammad Zuru, issued a public statement cautioning party members against aligning with what he described as “so-called emerging political parties,” including the SDP.

FG bans importation of oil pipelines

by Folarin Kehinde April 25, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Federal Government has announced a ban on the importation of oil pipelines into Nigeria.

The Minister of Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, stated this on Thursday during the launch of Monarch Alloys 33LPE and concrete weight coating facility in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

According to Lokpobiri, the country has to stop importing pipelines to patronise local producers.

Lokpobiri told the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board not to give waivers for the importation of Chinese pipelines any longer.

While acknowledging that pipelines are very important to the oil and gas industry, he said one of the reasons the NCDMB was created was to enable Nigerian companies to build capacity to service the industry.

He expressed happiness that for the past 15 years, Monarch Alloys had laid a solid foundation, expressing concerns, however, over its sustainability.

“I’m very happy that companies like this are now springing up in Nigeria.

But what is more important is not what all of us are getting here to witness. What is more important is the sustainability of this company. If this company is not patronised by companies in the oil and gas industry, this company will die naturally.

“In the past, Nigeria used to be a dumping ground for companies importing these pipes from China. I also do know that a couple of companies like this were set up and they found it very difficult to survive because we allowed dumping to take place.

“Let me take this opportunity to say today that under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, dumping will be no more. We have a duty to support our industries to grow and render the services that are relevant to the survival and sustainability of the oil and gas industry,” the minister said.

Speaking to the NCDMB team, he noted, “I’m very happy that I see the entire NCDMB family seated here. The ES is here. I saw all the directors who are here. Let me use the opportunity to publicly say that, look, there should be no more waivers to bring in Chinese pipes.

“The pipes the industry needs are right here in Monarch Alloys Limited. And what I see and the complaints I get is that, instead of implementing a local content act, what is being done is that waivers are being given for Chinese products to be brought in, thereby killing companies like this one. That’s why I’m saying it’s very important for us to gather here today.

I want to see how, in the next year, this company will grow. You know, in its capacity to be able to provide services, not just to Nigeria, but the entire African continent. The whole of Africa is looking up to Nigeria for services, for knowledge sharing. Whatever you think about the oil and gas industry, the rest of Africa is looking up to Nigeria. And for Nigeria, one of the most fundamental problems we have is the integrity of our pipelines.”

The oil minister maintained that Nigeria can easily produce 3 million barrels of oil per day, but the challenge is that the pipelines are old.

MTN Hit by Cyber Attack – Company Confirms Breach

by Folarin Kehinde April 25, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

MTN Group has confirmed it was the target of a cybersecurity breach that resulted in unauthorised access to personal data belonging to some of its customers in select markets.

However, the telecommunications giant insisted that its core infrastructure, including its network, billing systems, and financial service platforms, remained secure and fully operational. The telecommunications company also confirmed that its Nigerian operations were not affected by the incident.

In a statement released on Thursday, the company emphasised that there was “no evidence of compromise to any of our critical infrastructure, core MTN platforms or services.”

An unidentified third party has claimed responsibility for accessing data from segments of MTN’s systems, but the Group stated that, “at this stage we do not have any information to suggest that customers’ accounts and wallets have been directly compromised.”

MTN said it promptly activated its internal cybersecurity response protocols upon detection of the incident. Law enforcement agencies, including the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), have been notified and are currently investigating the matter.

The company also reported that it has begun the process of notifying affected customers, in compliance with local data protection and privacy regulations in the affected markets. Relevant country authorities have also been informed, and MTN said it was providing ongoing updates and full cooperation with regulatory bodies and investigators.

As part of its response, MTN urged customers to remain vigilant by observing best practices in digital security. These include keeping apps and devices up to date, using strong and unique passwords, enabling multifactor authentication where available, and being cautious of suspicious messages or requests for sensitive information.

“The privacy of information is our top priority, and MTN remains committed to safeguarding the integrity of our systems and the trust placed in us by our customers and stakeholders,” the company stated.

Investigations were ongoing as MTN works to contain the incident and reinforce its defenses against future threats.

Meanwhile, MTN Nigeria, the Group’s largest and most lucrative subsidiary, remains unaffected by the breach. A source at the MTN Nigeria office confirmed that the cybersecurity incident did not extend to its operations, and that all services and systems in the Nigerian market are fully secure and functional.

“MTN Nigeria is not affected by this recent development,” the source stated, offering reassurance to Nigerian subscribers and stakeholders.
