written by Folarin Kehinde

A 52-year -old man, identified as Salihu Byezhe, has reportedly slumped during Subhi prayers and died at Gudaba village in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

A resident of Gudaba, Musa Dantani, said the incident happened on Thursday when Byezhe went to observe Subhi (early morning prayers) at the community’s mosque.

He said after the deceased finished eating Sahur (morning food during Muslim fasting), he performed ablution and went to observe Subhi prayers when he slumped.

He said as the prayers were going on, the deceased slumped and people quickly took him out of the mosque and rushed him to the hospital in Kuje.

He said the deceased gave up upon arrival at the hospital, adding that the doctor, who confirmed him dead, attributed the death to high blood pressure.

“Prayers were ongoing when he suddenly slumped and some Muslims inside the mosque quickly held him and conveyed him to the hospital. He was still breathing on the way to the hospital, but unfortunately, he gave up on arriving at the hospital,” he said.

Our reporter learnt that the deceased was a high blood pressure patient and that his BP went up during the morning prayers.

Dantani said the remains of the deceased were buried around 10:12 am on Thursday according to Islamic rites.

“Natasha’s suspension not enough, she should be recalled” says Akpabio Kinsmen

by Folarin Kehinde March 7, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Afe Annang, a prominent socio-cultural organization in Annang Nation, Akwa Ibom State, has expressed dissatisfaction with the mere suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Senate.

The group has called for her recall or replacement by her senatorial district, Kogi Central.

Speaking at a press conference held at the organization’s secretariat in Abak Local Government Area on Thursday evening, the leader of Atai Afe Annang, His Majesty Obong Blaise Awakama, asserted that the senator’s conduct was unacceptable.

“We are not satisfied with only the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. We think her constituency should recall her. She should be given proper advice and orientation or replaced by another person.

“I don’t think that type of conduct is what any Nigerian, let alone a woman, should carry to the Senate,” Obong Awakama stated.

The press conference was convened in response to the controversy surrounding the suspension, which has garnered significant media attention.

Obong Awakama warned against any political plot aimed at undermining Senate President Godswill Akpabio, a respected son of Annang Nation.

“The issues at stake, as we gather from the mass media, include the routine change of seating allocation in the Senate affecting Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

“She perceives this as offensive and discriminatory, leading her to further allege sexual harassment by the distinguished Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

“How did an ordinary routine change of seating arrangement, arising from the incidence of senators cross-carpeting and necessitating such changes, become an issue of sexual discrimination and harassment?” he questioned.

Reaffirming their support for Akpabio, Awakama stated that every senator represents a constituency, and Akpabio represents both the Annang Nation in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District and the entire country as Senate President.

“No female senator should be used as a front to defame him. If there is an organized political plot to ease him out of office, we shall not sit idly by and watch adversaries succeed,” he declared.

BREAKING: Atiku Speaks on Leaving PDP for SDP

by Folarin Kehinde March 7, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed rumours that he is planning to leave his party for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Reacting to the speculation, Atiku’s special adviser on broadcast media, Abdulrasheed Shehu, took to X (formerly Twitter) to debunk the claims.

“Disregard the misinformation! Atiku Abubakar has neither joined nor is joining the SDP. This baseless speculation is a deliberate attempt to mislead,” Shehu wrote.

The rumours gained traction amid reports of Atiku’s growing political ties with former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai. Some sources suggested that both politicians, along with their allies, might be preparing to realign politically in response to ongoing challenges within their parties.

El-Rufai, who has recently fallen out of favour with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, openly expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated that if the APC strays too far from the founding principles that shaped it, he may consider leaving—but certainly not for the PDP.

This stance has fueled speculation that the SDP could become a new political home for both Atiku and El-Rufai, especially as the PDP continues to struggle with internal leadership crises.
