BREAKING: Edo lawmakers serve Shaibu impeachment notice

by Folarin Kehinde March 6, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Members of Edo Assembly have served Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, an impeachment notice.

Shaibu, a former member of the House of Representatives, ex-Majority Leader of Edo Assembly and former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), was given seven days to respond to allegations levelled against him.

Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki and Shaibu, both chieftains of the governing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo, are at loggerheads over the authentic governorship candidate of PDP in Edo.

Obaseki is fully backing a Lagos-based lawyer, Asue Ighodalo, who emerged as the party’s standard bearer of the governorship indirect primary election at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.

Shaibu emerged factional candidate at a parallel primary at his official residence on Commercial Avenue in Benin.

“I prefer to marry a witch to a prayerful wife” says Daddy Freeze

by Folarin Kehinde March 6, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Controversial media personality, Ifedayo Olarinde, aka Daddy Freeze, has revealed why he would prefer to marry a witch than a praying wife.

He said his estranged wife, Opeyemi, was not “a praying wife.”

He stated that it did not matter to him because he does not need a praying wife.

He disclosed that he still hears from God despite praying only five minutes daily.

Speaking in a video message shared via his Instagram page recently, Daddy Freeze said, “They said a woman that prays is a valuable asset. Not to me because I can pray for myself. I walk with God in such a way that I pray five minutes a day and I get everything I asked for. Because I am always hearing from God.

“So, I don’t need a praying wife. Instead of giving me a praying wife, give me witch or a mermaid that will be useful in other areas. Leave that praying to me. I am a spirit. I don’t need a praying wife. Even my ex was never really a praying wife. If it’s prayer, she just started now. She was never a praying wife and it didn’t matter to me.”

Dozens stranded as protesting truck drivers block major road leading to Abuja

by Folarin Kehinde March 6, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

A protest by the members of the Truck Drivers Association in Etsako West Local Government of Edo State left many road users stranded on Tuesday.

The drivers were said to have barricaded the busy Benin-Auchi-Abuja road making it impossible for vehicles to proceed to their various destinations.

The protesting drivers barricaded the Jattu junction of the highway with their trucks over the alleged delay in commencing the reconstruction of the road by the federal government.

The blockage of the road resulted in a long queue of vehicles stretching from Auchi to the Agbede axis of the road.

The barricade impeded the movement of vehicles on the highway as motorists moving towards the South-South, South East and North were not able to access the road.

The protest, organised by a group under the aegis of Concerned Citizens of Edo State, was to draw the attention of the federal government to the deplorable condition of the roads.

The Bank of Ghana has suspended the foreign exchange (FX) trading licences of two Nigerian-owned banks – First Bank of Nigeria and Guaranty Trust Bank over fraudulent documentation during operations.

Ghana’s apex bank made this known in a statement, saying the prohibition of the two bank’s FX trading licences which is for one month will begin from March 18, 2024.

The statement read, “Bank of Ghana has suspended the Foreign Exchange Trading Licences of Guaranty Trust Bank Ghana Limited (GTB) and FBNBank Ghana Limited (FBN), effective 18th March 2024, for a period of one (1) month, in accordance with section 11 (2) of the Foreign Exchange Act 2006, (Act 723),” the statement reads.

“This is as a result of various breaches of the foreign exchange market regulations, including fraudulent documentation in their foreign exchange operations which have come to the attention of the Bank of Ghana.

“The licence will be restored at the end of the one-month suspension period once the Bank of Ghana is satisfied that they have put in place effective controls to ensure strict adherence to regulations to the foreign exchange market.”

The two Nigerian banks faced the suspension at the time there was a degree of high levels of unpredictability in Nigeria’s FX market and as the Central Bank of Nigeria was making efforts to restore stability.

‘N30 trillion was printed, shared under Buhari’ – Northern governor reveals

by Folarin Kehinde March 5, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has blamed the current economic hardship being faced by Nigerians on the last administration led by Muhammadu Buhari.

The governor alleged that Buhari supervised the printing and sharing of about N30 trillion.

Mutfwang stated this during the swearing-in of 22 Special Advisers and heads of government agencies at the Government House in Jos on Monday.

Mutfwang said Buhari left the country’s economy in terrible shape for his successor, President Tinubu.

“We are at a very difficult juncture in the history of this country and I’m an advocate that after the election you forget politics and face governance,” Mutfwang said.

“And even though the Federal Government is being led by a party other than my own, I owe you the duty to tell Nigerians the truth that this government inherited a worse situation than 1999.

“This government inherited an economy where we simply printed money up to the tune of N30tn and shared.

“This government inherited an economy where the crude oil we’re yet to take out of the ground had been sold in advance.

“So, when you’re talking about the fall of the naira, it’s not rocket science. We sold our future under the last administration.

“No wonder you’re hearing of riots today, people intercepting food on the way. We are lucky on the plateau that perhaps we have more food than many other states.

“And I pray that the time will not come on the Plateau that we will see this kind of riot for food, but it means we must roll up our sleeves and get to work.

“And that is why, for us as a government, when we announced one of the positions that talked about food security, people were laughing but it is a serious issue.”

The governor announced plans by his administration to set up a special agro-processing zone in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in partnership with the African Development Bank to the tune of $300 million.

He called on the new appointees to brace up for the challenge to enable his administration to reverse the ugly situation for the good of the people.

“And to tell you that some of the appointees, I don’t know them, but because we want to get things done, we’re looking for the right people,” he said.
