BREAKING: Reps ask NCC to block all pornographic sites in Nigeria

by Folarin Kehinde March 11, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Nigerian House of Representatives has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), to ensure the blocking of all pornographic sites in the country.

The House wants the Commission to compel all internet service providers to block all such contents with immediate effect.

Dalhatu Tafoki, a lawmaker from Katsina State representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), sponsored the motion.

While presenting the motion, Tafoki emphasised that cyber pornography is a growing global concern and noted that Nigeria has not done enough to tackle the issue.

According to him, Nigeria is a “highly religious country” where major faiths preach against and prohibit nudity and obscenity.

The lawmaker went further to state that several countries across Asia, Africa and the Middle East had enacted laws banning pornography.

To drive home his point, the Katsina lawmaker made reference to warnings from psychologists and sociologists about the negative impact of pornography.

According to him, pornography could lead to adultery, prostitution and addiction.

“Renowned psychologists and sociologists around the world have issued stern warnings on the psychological, sociological and mental consequences of viewing pornographic content,” he said.

Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives subjected the motion to a voice vote where the lawmakers voted in support of it.

The House directed the NCC to impose penalties on service providers that fail to comply with the directive.

JUST IN: Protests Erupt as Supporters Defend Akpabio Amid Harassment Claims

by Folarin Kehinde March 11, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Supporters of Senate President Godswill Akpabio took to the streets of Abuja on Tuesday to protest against allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him.

The protest follows the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who accused Akpabio of sexual misconduct.

Last week, the Nigerian Senate barred Akpoti-Uduaghan from office for six months, cutting off her allowances and security.

On Wednesday, the Senate Ethics Committee dismissed her petition, stating that it violated procedural rules. Her suspension was linked to an earlier dispute over a change in her seating arrangement.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, one of only four women in the 109-member Senate, first made the allegation in a television interview on February 28, claiming Akpabio made unwanted sexual advances toward her in 2023.

Akpoti-Uduaghan represents the Kogi Central senatorial district.

Controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, has warned sternly against any celebrity sleeping with his wife, actress Ashabi Simple.

He gave the warning while reacting to actor Babatunde Bernard Tayo, aka Baba Tee’s confession of sleeping with his colleague Ijoba Lande’s wife, Darasimi.

Portable sent a series of voice notes to Baba Tee following his confession of sleeping with Dara after initially denying the claim.

In the voice notes, Portable condemned his action, stressing that he has so much respect for the actor and never expected him to do such a thing.

The Zazu crooner also shared the voice notes via his Instagram story.

He said, “Baba Tee, with the way I like you so much, you shouldn’t be sleeping with other people’s wives.

2027: SDP States Position on Coalition as Top Politicians Eye Membership

by Folarin Kehinde March 11, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Musa Gabam, has clarified the party’s stance on forming a coalition, as more politicians are expected to follow former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in joining the party.

El-Rufai officially left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the SDP on Monday, a move that has intensified discussions about opposition alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Political leaders have been exploring ways to unite opposition candidates from the 2023 election, but no formal agreement has been reached.

Amid growing speculations about a merger, Gabam dismissed the idea, saying, “The SDP is not in alignment with the proponents of a merger of political parties. It is a recipe for chaos.”

He also downplayed claims that El-Rufai’s move was linked to presidential ambitions, stressing that the party prioritizes grassroots participation.

“The party’s philosophy is entrenched in grassroots democratic participation and aligns with the politics of endorsement. Every potential aspirant must go through the process from the grassroots level to prevent imposition,” he said.

Gabam revealed that El-Rufai’s defection had sparked a wave of interest from politicians in Kaduna State and beyond, with more notable figures from the APC and other parties expected to join.

While he did not confirm specific names, party insiders suggest that former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola are among those being linked to the SDP.

However, Fayemi, in a statement yesterday, denied reports of his planned defection.

El-Rufai’s recent meetings with key political figures, including Aregbesola, Pastor Tunde Bakare, former President Muhammadu Buhari, and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have fueled speculations of a broader political realignment.

2027: Pastor Odumeje declares Presidential Ambition

by Folarin Kehinde March 10, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Popular Anambra-based cleric, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has declared his intention to run for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027, saying the country needs young, digital-minded leaders and “not old cargoes.”

Odumeje made the announcement during a sermon on Sunday, a video of which has since gone viral on social media.

However, he did not disclose the political party under which he plans to contest.

He said, “Both past and present leaders have failed to move Nigeria forward due to their age and lack of vision. The country needs a vibrant, resilient, and forward-thinking leader like me to usher in real progress.

“We need a young leader in this country, and I think I am coming out. We need a young leader as a president, a digital leader, not old cargoes. Am I sure you hear me? I think I will come out, I will come out for president.”

The cleric, known for his dramatic preaching style, asked his congregation if they were ready for his presidency, promising to introduce modern development and a digital way of life.

“Are you ready for me? Odumeje for president? Are you ready for me? Because I know what you need. I know what you want. I want to construct a main road called Citadel for you. I want to give you a modern life, a digital life,” Odumeje said.

While his presidential ambition has drawn excitement from his followers, it has also sparked widespread debate among social media users.

BREAKING: El-Rufai Dumps APC, Joins SDP

by Folarin Kehinde March 10, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The immediate-past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was as he joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The former governor cited irreconcilable differences with the ruling party’s leadership as reasons for dumping the APC.

In a resignation letter submitted to his ward in Kaduna State on Monday, El-Rufai expressed disappointment with the APC’s trajectory in recent years.

“I have diligently served the APC and made my contributions to its viability as a political platform,” he stated.

“However, developments in the last two years have confirmed a troubling disregard for democratic principles and progressive values that I hold dear.”

El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, played a key role in securing electoral victories for the party in 2015, 2019, and 2023.

Reflecting on his tenure as Kaduna governor, he highlighted his administration’s focus on human development, education, healthcare, infrastructure , job creation, and investment.

Despite his contributions, he signaled his decision to part ways with the APC due to growing concerns about governance and internal party dynamics.

“At this point in my political journey, I must seek another political platform for the pursuit of the progressive values I cherish,” he said.

Announcing his move to the SDP, El-Rufai expressed gratitude to his mentors, colleagues, and supporters, reaffirming his commitment to advancing democratic principles.

“As a member of the SDP, I am committed to fostering a unified democratic platform to challenge the APC in upcoming elections,” he declared.

He urged Nigerians who share his concerns about the country’s future to join him in building the SDP as a viable alternative, emphasizing the need to elevate Nigeria as a beacon of pride for Africa and the Black Race.

El-Rufai concluded his statement with a call for unity and progress, vowing to dedicate his efforts toward strengthening Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

BREAKING: Resign Within 48 Hours Or Be Impeached – Rivers Governor Fubara Given Fresh Ultimatum

by Folarin Kehinde March 10, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, has issued a fresh ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, demanding his resignation within 48 hours or face impeachment.

Okocha made the declaration on Monday while addressing journalists at his private residence in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

He accused Governor Fubara of disrespecting President Bola Tinubu, particularly in his handling of the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. According to him, the governor failed to honour the peace initiatives led by the president, prompting the APC to take a firm stance.

“As a political party, we are today advising the governor; there are two options, resign honourably or be impeached. That is the position of the All Progressives Congress,” Okocha said.

He further stated, “He has disrespected Mr. President, and we told him that we cannot be here and have him disrespect Mr. President. The offences are there; the Supreme Court has agreed and even provided us with more evidence. The House of Assembly does not need to set up any committee again to investigate him.”

Okocha emphasized that the APC would not tolerate any defiance from the governor, insisting that he should step down immediately.

“48 hours is too much to give him as an ultimatum. He should just resign honourably,” he added.

This latest ultimatum comes just days after the Rivers State House of Assembly gave Governor Fubara a 48-hour deadline to present the 2025 budget.

2027: Tinubu’s Second-Term Campaign Kicks Off In North

by Folarin Kehinde March 10, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have begun campaigning for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Although the party and the president have not officially launched the campaign, top APC figures, including National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, have openly supported Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

Speaking at the APC headquarters in Abuja while addressing support groups, Ganduje advised politicians from the North planning to run for president in 2027 to wait until 2031. He made it clear that Tinubu should be allowed to complete two terms.

Similarly, during a TVC interview, Akume urged former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar, along with other northern politicians, to step aside in 2027.

Beyond statements from political leaders, early campaign activities have been spotted in Kaduna, Kebbi, and Kwara states, with billboards promoting Tinubu’s re-election also appearing in parts of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The emergence of these early campaigns has sparked controversy, with opposition parties and political analysts arguing that it violates the Electoral Act and the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
