Uromi Residents Flee Town Amid Fears of Reprisal and Arrest

by Folarin Kehinde April 1, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Communities around Old Ilushi Road, Opere, and Good Will Junction in Uromi, Edo State, have been deserted by residents for fear of reprisals and arrests by security agents, following the lynching of 16 travellers by a mob in the area last Thursday.

This came as Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State yesterday in Kano State, assured that justice will prevail for those killed in the mob attack.

He also visited the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano North), where he said the 14 suspects so far arrested in connection with the killings, would soon be moved to Abuja for further interrogation.

This is even as the Arewa Consultative Forum, AFC, called for an independent judicial panel to investigate the killings.

Vanguard gathered that residents of Uromi and environs have also stopped going to their farms, with many seeking refuge in neighbouring towns.

Some residents who spoke with Vanguard shared circumstances that led to the mob action.

A resident who simply gave his name as Monday, said: “The vigilante group received information from areas on the stretch of Old Ilushi road, from where the travellers were coming, that they had weapons in their vehicle.

‘’When they arrived in Uromi, the vigilantes asked them to step down, but the travellers refused, leading to an altercation. One of them pulled out a knife, prompting the vigilantes to raise alarm, accusing them of being kidnappers.

“Nobody justified the action. However, those who took part in the mob action have fled, while innocent individuals have been arrested.

Turkey: Mass protests target Erdogan’s grip on power

by Folarin Kehinde March 30, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The economic situation has become unbearable for many throughout Turkey. The country has been experiencing an economic crisis for several years now. The population suffers from rising inflation and high rents.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (Tuik), the annual inflation rate stood at 42% in January this year. Additionally, there is a depreciation of the Turkish lira. Many elderly people and pensioners can no longer afford the apartments they live in.

Saturday’s rally had been called for by the opposition party CHP (Republican People’s Party) of which Imamoglu is a member. Demonstrators accused Erdogan of trying to politically eliminate Imamoglu through the judiciary.

Since the beginning of protests following Imamoglu’s detention on March 23, a total of 1,900 people have been arrested according to the Turkish Interior Ministry — mostly students. Journalists were also detained, including Swedish reporter Kaj Joakim Medin from the daily newspaper Dagens ETC, who wanted to report on the protests in Istanbul. Earlier, BBC correspondent Mark Lowen had also been detained.

“This fight is for Turkey,” explained CHP leader Ozgür Ozel at the rally, which he said drew more than two million people. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan however had described the protesters as “marginal groups.”

Despite the end of Ramadan, people flocked to protest. “I am 85 years old and have never experienced such oppression,” one woman told DW. “I’m here for the republic, for Atatürk, for the peace of the people, for improving our times and escaping poverty.”

By singing the Turkish national anthem, protesters wanted to signal their unity. Alongside Turkish flags and CHP banners, there were also flags from supporting political parties, unions, and civil society organizations. University students, pensioners, workers, teachers, and even civil servants took part.

“We are being treated unfairly,” a 17-year-old student who joined the rally with his father and other relatives told DW. “Our future is being taken away, our youth is gone. That’s why I’m here.”

Other political parties also participated in the protests, including the pro-Kurdish DEM Party. “We’re fighting for the freedom of Ekrem Imamoglu, Selahattin Demirtas, Figen Yuksekdag and all political prisoners,” one of its members told DW. “We’re fighting for the freedom of imprisoned students.”

One thing seems certain: The mass demonstrations in Turkey are making 2025 a historic year. Some 22 years after Erdogan took office as Turkish Prime Minister in 2003, the fight for democracy and rule of law in the country has flared up again.

Pray for your husbands, nurture your children in Godly way, RCCG women advise mothers

by Folarin Kehinde March 30, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Kenny & Nelson

In continuation of the 2025 International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day Celebration, distinguished women in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has advised mothers to always pray for their husbands and be exemplary role models for their children.

Wife of Pastor-in-charge, RCCG House of David Zone, Pastor (Mrs) Oluwatoyin Kings in her message to the women in the zone stated that imbibing the character of living an exemplary life and praying for their husbands will bring peace into the family.

Mrs Kings explained that mothers are destiny molders not murderers hence they should exhibit characters that people will say blessed is the womb that carried the children and not otherwise adding that they should rise up to such occasion, be mothers indeed and role models to their children.

“As a mother, I would encourage mothers in House of David that they should rise
up to the occasion and be mothers indeed, role models to their children.

“Pray for your husband, nurture your children in the way of the Lord. That is where their peace lies. When you don’t nurture the children in the way of the Lord, you are only planning or cooking up their pain, their tomorrow pain.”.

She stressed that no perfect marriage exist hence mothers known as home builders should ensure that they are focused, appreciate humble beginning and trust God with their family.

“Don’t look down on today’s small beginning. Just have focus and trust God together. It’s better to start on a humble background and end up great, than to start on a great beginning and end up small. So, my advice to them is that they should stay focused, be more prayerful, be more committed to God, and not leave their homefront for any other thing.

“Abigail was a mother, she was a wife indeed. When David would have killed her husband and the entire generation, God used her to intervene. So, I want our mothers to play the role of Abigail in their homes and the Lord will help them in Jesus’ name.”. She added.

Wife of Head of Department, Technical & Media Unit, RCCG House of David Zone, Mrs Tina Oseagha advocated for urgent need affordable healthcare needs and education for women.

Mrs Oseagha emphasized that
If women are educated and well informed, they will make drastic and good decision about healthcare for themselves and their families bearing in mind that they are superheroes hence they want the best for their families.

“Educated woman will always seek timely medical care, adopt healthy behavior and preventive measures that will keep the family in good health.

“Education and mentorship have a huge role to play in empowering our women and girls, most especially in most male dominated industries and organization. We have strong women in our society that can break barriers. If such women will have access to guidance, advice, support, and networks that offers a sense of belonging and community, where women and girls can connect with like minded individuals.”.

She however advised women to come out of their comfort zone, learn new skills, be innovative and embrace new challenges, ignore toxic behaviors but rather channel their energy to profitable ventures.

Assistant Pastor RCCG, House of David Zone, Pastor (Mrs) Halima Oyelade on her part noted that mothers should train their children in the way of the Lord by teaching and praying for them while living an exemplary life worthy of emulation.

Mrs Oyelade emphasized that mothers should love their children and spend quality time with them, an act which she said will build confidence and trust in their parents.

“One of the greatest thing is to train up your kids in the way of the Lord. Be an example to your kids. Teach them and let your life be an example. Love them and train them by spending time with them.

“Children spell love as time. Let your kids be able to confide in you, Pray and commit them in the hands of God while you also teach them the truth.

She however noted that motherhood is not just a phase in life for mothers but a step towards building faith considering the challenges encountered in raising the children adding that action speaks louder than words, hence children are ready to copy whatever their parents does either good or bad.

written by Folarin Kehinde

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has debunked reports claiming that his principal slumped in Abuja.

Posts circulating on X (formerly Twitter) alleged that the Minister collapsed at an event on Friday in the nation’s capital.

The rumour also claimed that Wike was immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

However, when contacted by DAILY POST, Olayinka simply said the report is “fake.”

This comes amid the political tension in Rivers State, sparked by the face-off between the suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Wike, his estranged political godfather.

DAILY POST reports that the political crisis in the state took another dimension on Friday when the former Head of Service in the state, George Nwaeke, peddled a series of allegations against Fubara.

Tinubu’s Second Term Guaranteed, Says Akpabio

by Folarin Kehinde March 28, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Senate President Godswill Akpabio says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can rest assured that his second term in office is guaranteed, notwithstanding the ongoing plot by the opposition to unseat him in the 2027 poll.

Speaking during the special Iftar/Lent dinner organized by the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) aimed at strengthening fellowship and deepening bonds of unity among governors, National Assembly members, ministers, top government functionaries, and the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Wednesday night, he expressed optimism that the APC would also sweep more elective seats across the country in the 2027 poll.

Applauding the Governor Hope Uzodinma-led PGF for organizing the event, he called on party stalwarts across the country to work together to achieve the objective.

He said: “Can we say amen! We will offer prayers for our party, that yes, indeed, victory shall be ours in 2027. Can we say a loud amen! And we will also pray for Mr. President that his second term is assured. Can we shout a loud amen!

So, for the party, our governors, you will grow in numbers, you will grow in numbers. On our part in the parliament, ours is to continue to add the numbers to you. We just recently sent one of our own in the Senate to go and take care of Edo State. Is that not a good thing?”

Uzodinma remarked that the occasion allows party stalwarts to pray, reason, and work together in the task of nation-building, adding that all hands must be on deck to ensure the victory of the APC in the 2027 poll.

Because we practice partisan democracy, and because we produce the government, we must take ownership of the government no matter where we are and where we sit. The success of the government is our collective success. The failure of the government is our collective failure. And the government is like a product,” he noted.

And all of us are marketing officers that must market this product. So the whole idea behind this… is to once more have a platform to appreciate ourselves, to celebrate our own, because the government is our own.
