Leading Reporters aims to be accurate. When we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and tell readers what changed.
How we correct
- Factual errors (a wrong name, figure, date, title or quote) are fixed in the story, and a dated correction note is added at the end explaining what was wrong.
- Significant errors that change the meaning of a story are noted at the top of the article as well as at the end.
- Updates that add new information to a developing story are marked “Updated” with the time, in West Africa Time (WAT).
- Spelling, grammar and formatting fixes that do not change meaning are made without a note.
Removing stories
We do not remove published stories because they are inconvenient to the people named in them. A story is removed or anonymised only for legal reasons, to protect someone’s safety, or where it is fundamentally wrong and cannot be corrected. When that happens we publish a note explaining why.
Report an error
If you believe we have published something inaccurate, please tell us through our Contact page with the link to the story, what is wrong and, if possible, evidence of the correct information. An editor will review every request.
