The Blaugrana looked on as their arch-rivals Real Madrid claimed both the Primera Division and Champions League titles this season.
The failure to claim these titles, after winning nine out of a possible 13 trophies under manager Luis Enrique, has motivated Messi to get back to the top of the pile under the guidance of new boss Ernesto Valverde.
“Our objective at the beginning of the season was to win everything,” said Messi, according to ESPN FC.
“We’ll try again next season. The objective is to get back to winning everything.”
When asked about Barca’s new manager Valverde, Messi added: “I don’t know the new Barca coach personally, but we’ll meet in the next few days.
“I know him from the teams he’s coached, the [Athletic Bilbao] side of recent years. I don’t know how he works, so we’ll get to know each other once we introduce ourselves.”
